Donald Trump says border patrol agents are “letting people pour into the country so they can go and vote,” calling it “a disgrace.”

Trump made the comments Friday at Trump Tower, where he formally accepted the National Border Patrol Council’s endorsement.

Trump’s assertions affirmed comments from border patrol union official Art Del Cueto, who said, “I’ve spoken to several agents in my sector that are in charge of a lot of this processing of these individuals that we apprehended.”

Some of those in custody have “criminal records,” Del Cueto added, “but they’re setting them aside because at this point they’re saying immigration is so tied up with trying to get to the people that are on the waiting list, hurry up and get them their immigration status corrected, make them citizens—”
“Why?” Trump interrupted.

“So they can go ahead and vote before the election,” said Del Cueto.

“That’s a big statement, fellas,” Trump said to reporters. “To me, that’s massive.”

Del Cueto agreed: “That’s huge.”

Trump then repeated the union official’s assertion: “They’re letting people pour into the country so they can go and vote.”

“Wanna hurry up and fast-track them so they can hurry up and be able to vote for these elections,” Del Cueto repeated.

Beyond Del Cueto’s conversations with border patrol agents, no other evidence was offered to back up the claim.

Shawn Moran, a border patrol spokesman, said while there’s been an uptick in the number of people trying to cross the border illegally, there’s no evidence that they’re being allowed in to vote in the US election.
