If you are having issues with the page not fitting, try this,

1 Go to the Control Panel, and open it.

2 Go to Personalization, and double click to open it.

3 Go to Adjust Font Size (DPI) and open it.

4 Check to see if it is on Default scale (96DPI)

5 If not check the box next to it so there is dot in it. You will most likely have to re-start your computer to have this make an affect.

This isn't necessarily a cure-all, but I had to do this to get windows and webpages to get sized to the monitor without a problem of scrolling left and right to read anything.

    Hope it helps!

    Does not fit

    W,
First try reducing the cell width on the "join ALIPAC email alert list" on the home page.

If I remember correctly, the cell which contains the "fight back with ALIPAC" link sets the width for the discussion cells below it. Try narrowing that and see if it resolves the issue (after you resize the cell to it's left to match the other cells on the left margin).

If that doesn't correct the problem completely, try rearranging the "tags" list at the bottom of the page. (That may be stretching your page width.)

I also noticed a difference in the link arrangement in the cell at the top of the message body column (check out the orientation of the "our platform" link).

One or all of these fixes should get the page downsized to your liking. You might also note that the reason this page seems to fit your screen better is that there is no cell appearing on the right margin in discussions pages!

My Vista desktop 19 inch widescreen: Fits perfectly.
Same for my 15.4 inch widescreen windows xp laptop
And also for my 17 inch widescreen Linux laptop

Brother in law has a 15 inch non widescreen laptop collection (works for the houston PD as a mobie data administrator, all four-six of them seem to have no issues whenever I used them to surf alipac away from home.

    Doesn't fit,
But on IE toolbar there's a "page" tab to resize the page to fit.

Nobelium may have been spot-on with the observation of the banner (header) size. That affects the overall width of the page view.

Also important is the resolution setting of the user PC, but the webpage should be designed with the typical (average) user settings in mind. A quick scan of the page statcounter (which reveals each user's screen resolution setting as they access the page) will yield the average resolution used.

With the display size set at 100% I experimented with various screen resolutions to isolate the problem. It appears that a resolution of 1280x768 fits the home page precisely on a standard 19" monitor, but the view appears compressed or downsized.

At 1024x768 the view is much improved and does not appear compressed, but the home page does not fit and has to scroll horizontally to read the right side cells. For standard monitors (not flat screen or wide view) the 1024x768 setting is the most practical, especially for us old folks with diminished vision, but not yet legally blind and leaning into the monitor to read the text.

The 800x600 setting makes things appear excessively large and side-to-side scrolling is necessary to read any page in it's entirety. For that reason I'd avoid the 800x600 resolution completely, and most folks do exactly that because of the constant side-to-side scrolling.

Bottom line is that the user can reset the screen resolution or the page view percentage to facilitate their best access to any given web page, but the web designer should maintain continuity between all pages on a given website for the sake of ease of use. I think that is what William is striving for here and so the fix falls to the webmaster to isolate and correct.

    Welcome to ALIPAC airdale!
