50,000 Watts of Hate: Hispanic media group seeks FCC inquiry
By Wendy Norris 2/2/09 9:44 AM
A pilot study to evaluate hate speech on conservative talk radio found an astounding 334 instances of anti-Hispanic bias uttered in a sample of brief 40-minute segments from three national syndicated shows, including one widely broadcast in Colorado. A Hispanic media organization is now calling for the Federal Communications Commission to probe whether there is a connection between odious radio yakking and hate crimes.
The Hate Speech on Commercial Talk Radio study (PDF) by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center dished up some very concerning news, especially in light of a 2008 FBI report that anti-Hispanic hate crimes are on the rise among all offenses motivated by ethnicity/national-origin — from 529 offenses (or 42.8 percent of that year’s total) in 2003 to 775 offenses (61.7 percent of that year’s total) in 2007.
The preliminary analysis reveals a systematic and extensive use of false facts, flawed argumentation, divisive language, and dehumanizing metaphors that are directed toward specific vulnerable groups. Thus far, the data show a recurring rhetorical pattern in which vulnerable groups were identified as antithetical to the core values attributed by the host to himself, his audience, and the nation. These groups were then linked to social institutions that were presented as complicit. In effect, target groups are characterized as a direct threat to the listeners’ way of life.
This election is about the 12 million people living in the shadows, the communities taking immigration enforcement into their own hands…they’re counting on us to stop the hateful rhetoric filling our airwaves, rise above the fear and demagoguery, and finally enact comprehensive immigration reform. W, for what its worth, in this report by UCLA on the john adn ken show, I listened to them last week talk about it. the problem is the day they listened was the same day that Danielle Bologna was on the show, talking about the murder of her husband and her two kids.

The annual Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hate Crimes Statistics Report released yesterday documents the continued rise of crimes that police report are motivated by bias against Hispanics. In 2007, local police reported to the FBI that there were 830 victims of anti-Hispanic crimes in 595 incidents around the nation. Both of these numbers represent increases over the previous year and surpass previous highs dating back to when annual reports were first mandated by the Hate Crimes Statistics Act.
According to the report, in 2007, Hispanics comprised 61.7 percent of victims of crimes motivated by a bias toward the victims’ ethnicity or national origin. In 2004, the comparable figure was 51.5 percent. Since 2003, the number of both victims of anti-Hispanic crimes and incidents increased by nearly 40 percent.
Earlier this year, Luis Ramirez, a Mexican immigrant who was engaged to be married to the U.S. citizen mother of his two small children, was beaten to death by a group of white teenagers in Shenandoah, PA. According to witnesses and local reports, he was accosted on the evening of July 12 and suffered fatal blows to the head and other parts of the body while the perpetrators shouted racial and ethnic epithets. MALDEF successfully requested the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the killing as a hate crime and the local District Attorney has filed murder and ethnic intimidation charges in the slaying. The trial will take place in the coming months.

I know that time is short, but I think in the long run the best way to combat these groups is to compile our own lists of quotes off of Spanish language stations using hate speech such as the term "gringo". On open boards, you will find 5 racist hateful comments against whites for every comment against any other group, including Hispanics.
It is amazing how often they use the word gringo, even in their mottos. Isn't that a lot like calling using the "N" word? and this is not hate speech?Proud American and wife of a wonderful LEGAL immigrant from Ireland.

02-02-2009, 09:16 PM #9The report goes on to demonstrate the steady growth of anti-Hispanic hate crimes after 2003.
2007: 595 anti-Hispanic crimes against 830 victims
2006: 576 anti-Hispanic crimes against 819 victims
2005: 522 anti-Hispanic crimes against 722 victims
2004: 475 anti-Hispanic crimes against 646 victims
2003: 426 anti-Hispanic crimes against 595 victims
2002: 480 anti-Hispanic crimes against 639 victims
Where's the count on anti-white, anti-black, anti-Indian, anti-Irish, etc., etc. crimes? Furthermore, are Hispanics the only group that doesn't have any racist among their ranks? Are they the only ones being assaulted in America’s neighborhoods? Look, I know there are racist of all skin tones walking the streets of America (always has been and probably will be for many years to come). However, most of us know that this really isn't about anti-Hispanic crime victims. This stuff is being pushed forth by groups like La Raza, MECHA, LULAC, ACLU, MALDEF, etc. to draw attention to the perceived injustices being done to illegal alien Hispanics. It's all part of the game plan being cooked up to draw empathy from the American public, local, state, and federal government (to include the U.S. Congress and President)."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

You are exactly right. The Hispanic population is increasing tremendously by high birthrates and illegal immigration from their ethtnic group. It only makes sense percentage wise that crimes against them would increase. It is utter BS that people like Dobbs etal are contributing to increased hate crimes against their group. They only speak the truth about illegal immigration. When the illegal invaders are mostly from one ethnic group it is only natural that Americans will view them unfavorably, especially siince far too many Hispanic citizens are sticking up for these illegals and calling us racists for wanting our immigration laws enforced. You reap what you sow.
