And the CPAC straw-poll winner is ...
Conservatives once again break with establishment
Published: 44 mins ago
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – The attendees of the Conservative Political Action Conference have selected their straw poll winner for presidential candidate in 2016, and once again, establishment candidates took a backseat to those figures conservatives believe more closely reflect their values.
The winner, with 31 percent of the vote, was Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.
A total of 2,459 votes were tallied from among attendees who hailed from all 50 states.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas came in second, with 11 percent of the vote, followed by Dr. Ben Carson, with 9 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie with 8 percent, former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., with 7 percent and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, with 6 percent.
As WND reported, an earlier, independent straw poll of conservatives conducted by veteran activist Richard A. Viguerie also found Paul as the favorite presidential candidate for 2016, 12 points ahead of Cruz.
Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, said CPAC attendees “are rejecting the Republican establishment and its brand of Big Government ‘me-too-ism’ in favor of candidates who are authentic representatives of the grassroots conservative base of the party.”
Paul also topped Viguerie’s poll with 29 percent, followed by Cruz with 17 percent. There was a three-way tie for third between Carson, Rubio and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, with each garnering 10 percent.
“The fact that the top vote-getters in this year’s CHQ straw poll are young, limited-government constitutional conservatives bodes well for Republican chances in 2016,” said Viguerie.
He said all are “boat-rockers of a limited government constitutional conservative bent.”
The establishment Republican contenders, he said, are all at the bottom of the list.
Thursday at CPAC, Cruz called for the dismantling of President Obama’s agenda, including a complete repeal of Obamacare. Friday, Paul drew the conference’s most enthusiastic response to a presidential candidate, declaring, “I will not retreat an inch, and I will be heard.”
Here is Viguerie’s complete list:
- Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. (29 percent)
- Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas (17 percent)
- Dr. Ben Carson (10 percent)
- Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. (10 percent)
- Gov. Chris Christie, N.J. (10 percent)
- Gov. Scott Walker, Wisc. (7 percent)
- Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc. (2 percent)
- Former Gov. Jeb Bush, Fla. (2 percent)
- Former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa. (2 percent)
- Gov. Mike Pence, Ind. (1 percent)
Viguerie noted that former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal did not receive enough votes to remain on the leader board.

Let patriots not forget.
Although Mr. Paul voted against the infamous Senate’s “Gang of Eight” amnesty bill, the one strategy that what would ensure effective immigration control he rejects: all illegal aliens MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY AND THE BORDER SECURED BEHIND THEM. Of course, once you reject that, what is left? AMNESTY. His commitment to amnesty was exposed with his caustic remarks against those who have the impudence to want illegal aliens to leave our homeland. He said, “They(illegal aliens) are not going home.” So then, why is that Mr. Paul? Is it because politicians like you will not even consider legislation to make them leave even though it is the current law? And he was not through bad mouthing those patriots. He also stated, “What would they (citizens who want illegal aliens to go home) have us do, put them in concentration camps…?” Thus he ridicules concerned patriots.
My whole life I have been subjected to smart mouth insults from left wing bullies; I’ll be damned if I will take it from some pseudo conservative punk. Amnesty is the hardcore leftist ultimate weapon, the “final solution” to destroy the conservative movement. The two ideas are irreconcilable and contrary; one nullifies the other, either you are not a conservative and for amnesty, or you are a conservative and therefore against amnesty. You can not be both a conservative and for amnesty – period.
No way in hell will I support Rand Paul unless he makes a public apology to the patriots he insulted by belittling their opinions and he states that “illegal aliens MUST GO HOME.”

Another one bites the Dust!! TED CRUZ = AMNESTY
I KNOW you're all desperate to BELIEVE in SOMEONE! Me too! But aren't you tired of being conned??? There ARE decent people out there to support, but you can't as long as you won't let go of the LIARS!
Several years ago, we who want enforcement of our immigration laws, came to a conclusion.
ANY politician who says "Secure the border FIRST" was full of, excuse me, CRAP and means to have all the illegals stay here. THAT IS AMNESTY!!!
Ted Cruz: " I hope that this body will adopt the amendment I've introduced to provide real border security and to ensure that border security occurs first before legalization."
Oh, yes, yes, he says OVER and OVER that he's against AMNESTY! He even has a petition for us to sign AGAINST AMNESTY...but it doesn't say ONE WORD about NOT legalizing them.

We've sung this song before. Danced this dance just too many times.
Come nomination time, Rand Paul or Ted Cruz will wind up just like Ron did - BARRED FROM THE CONVENTION, or something close to it to make them completely cut from the race (at the testicles).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rand and Ron Paul have won four of the last five CPAC straw polls
For the past five years, Republicans with the last name Paul have won four of the five Conservative Political Action Conference presidential straw polls.
On Saturday, Senator Rand Paul (R-Kent.) won the straw poll, repeating his win from last year that came one week after his 13-hour-filibuster over the issue of due process.
In 2010 and 2011, the senator’s father former congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) won CPAC’s poll as the conference became flooded both years by large numbers of the presidential candidate’s enthusiastic supporters.
Many observers have noted the conference’s libertarian trend in recent years.
Said columnist George Will about CPAC in 2013:
What I did see at CPAC was the rise of the libertarian strand of Republicanism, which has an affected foreign policy that is a pullback from nation-building and other ambitions aboard that they never countenance from government at home, and a sense of ‘live and let live’ with subjects such as decriminalization of certain drugs and gay marriage.
Will added, “Republicans have been arguing — social conservatives and libertarian free-market conservatives — since the 1950s, when the National Review was founded on the idea of the fusion of the two.
Will concluded, “It has worked before with Ronald Reagan. It can work again.”
