Woman gives birth during flight to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International
9:51 p.m. EDT, June 11, 2010
FORT LAUDERDALE —
A woman gave birth aboard an American Airlines flight out of Port-au-Prince Friday evening, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
The delivery came shortly before the plane was due to land at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 7:30 p.m
It was a boy.
A doctor on the flight and some crew members assisted with the delivery, and paramedics checked on the mother and newborn when they landed, said Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles.
The woman, a 22-year-old Haitian national, and her son were taken to Broward General Medical Center, Jachles said. He said there were no problems reported during the birth. The conditions of mother and child were not immediately available.
Jachles said he didn't know how far along in her pregnancy the woman was when she gave birth.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
