Workplace enforcement needed

The only effective way to control illegal immigration is to crack down on employers.

This was the conclusion made by a blue-ribbon, bipartisan commission on immigration reform 17 years ago.

The recommendations made by the 1990 U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform were studiously ignored by Congress and Democratic and Republican administrations while illegal immigration escalated year after year.

Now that a few baby steps have been taken to enforce the law against employing illegal immigrants, a federal judge has blocked the enforcement of this law due to the fear that it would “result in irreparable harm to innocent workers and employers.â€
