Who cares if they're legal or not

my question is, why do we want them here legally?...they would still be the same uneducated folks, from Third World cultures?...I don't understand how having them follow the proper channels, but still being the same quality of immigrant elevates our country? If they are granted amnesty, then they will be legal..and our we going to say, well now they're legal immigrants, so we as a cultural movement accept them?...the problem, as I see it, isn't that they're coming here legally or illegally...it's that they're all coming from the Third World..that is the real problem we should be addressing.

Patrick-Henry, you're right in that this seems to be one of the major issues with the Senate amnesty bill 2611 and the proposed Pence-Hutchison plan. Both of these propose ways to convert illegal to legal status, either through outright amnesty or through a massive guest worker program that will evolve into amnesty.

You are so right! Why would we not want the best applicants for citizenship that we can get. I don't mind accepting third worlders as citizens who are educated, skilled and speak English, but I just don't want a peon class of unskilled, high school dropouts who don't speak English as citizens. I do believe that the Democrats have out pandered everyone else for the Latino community vote and would like nothing better than to grant amnesty to the 20 million illegals that are here, as they feel, and probably rightly so, that these illegals would probably vote Democratic. Some (actually most) politicans would do anything to get reelected.
