There's a new website called www.VOIDnow.com , which stands for "Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy". It was just created about a month ago.

The idea is to get our government to finally focus on our interests (like stopping "illegal immigration") by "throwing the bumbs out."

I really believe this needs to be done. I always like to bring up the shocking re-election rate of our U.S. House members. In 2000, the re-election rate was 98%. And it was 98% for 2002 and 2004 too.

With so little turnover, it's really no wonder that our reps do NOT care what we think. Some of them may even believe they're doing a great job, as we keep re-electing them.

And why should they care what we think, if we re-elect them no matter what they do?

Well, of course, they should care, just because they're supposed to be representing us. But they don't and they won't, as long as we keep re-electing them.

So, the point of www.VOIDnow.com is to get people to vote for one of the challengers to the incumbents for all election races, with no exceptions. In other words, you may want to vote for a 3rd party challenger or one of the main-party challengers. Either way, you put pressure on the incumbent.

The website www.VOIDnow.com says that it's "non-partisan, all partisan", which means that all are welcome, whether they be Republicans, Democrats, independent, or a supporter of one of the 3rd parties. And everyone would benefit from this anti-incumbent mission, which would force politicians to pay attention to the voters.

The website www.VOIDnow.com does have a variety of popular issues that it mentions, in the mission statement:
http://www.poliwatch.org/void/2005/10/v ... tement.php
Voters must do exactly what special interests threaten to do; withdraw support from those seeking reelection. If VOID is successful, newly elected politicians will have a much higher regard for the voters. Their agenda will include the voter's agenda and make their issues first priority. They will solve some of America's biggest problems like border security, sprialing health care costs, sprialing national debt and trade deficits, falling educational performance, growing poverty, and strengthening American senior's retirement years. And when these problems are solved, then it will be safe to vote for incumbents again: incumbents with a renewed respect for the American people and voters.

I think it's a great idea, but ideally, I think we should continue to vote for incumbents who are doing a good job, though in my opinion, that's less than 20% of the current Congress.

And I think we'd be better off getting rid of 100% of them than continuing to re-elect 98% of them in each election.

But of course, we won't be able to get rid of 100% in the near future, even if we try. And it sounds like the people working on www.VOIDnow.org plan to concentrate on the most vulnerable districts, which sounds sensible.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea.
