• Immigration analyst: Illegals aliens increasing because they’re waiting for amnesty

An immigration enforcement organization says it's no wonder that a recent survey shows an uptick in the illegal alien population considering how inviting the U.S. government has made it for illegals.

The Pew Research Center's Hispanic Trends Project released a report estimating that the illegal population reached the 11.7 million mark in 2012, up from 11.5 million in 2011.

Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, says these Pew findings directly contradict the Obama administration's claims that it is deporting record numbers of illegal aliens and that the border is more secure than ever.

"They have been claiming that we've had zero net illegal immigration over the last four or five years,” Mehlman tells OneNewsNow. “They've been claiming that they have been deporting people at a record pace, and yet the number of illegal aliens living in the United States has grown."

Mehlman says more illegal aliens have been coming because they expect amnesty is right around the corner.

"If you're making offers like amnesty, you're going to find a lot of people are going to come here and take us up on that offer,” he says. “And what the president and leading members of Congress have been saying there's an amnesty coming.”

Mehlman says House Republican leaders are now reportedly hoping to have some kind of immigration bill ready for a vote next month.
