Responding to an alert issued by Indiana Federation for Immigration Reform & Enforcement (IFIRE), Americans for Legal Immigration PAC has deployed all national activists against HB 1326 in the Indiana State Senate after it was found to have been amended to include in-state tuition for illegal immigrants by state Senator Jean Leising.

The Indiana Senate held back HB 1326 yesterday after a flood of calls were received at their main switchboard (317-232-9400) asking that HB 1326 be defeated or amended to exclude the in-state tuition for illegals provision. HB 1326 was originally filed by Assemblywoman Rhonda Rhoads without any language regarding illegal immigrants.

"Most of the 13 states that have in-state tuition for illegal aliens enacted the law by stealth. The public was never notified, and even most lawmakers did not know what they had just voted for," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "This appears to be what is being attempted in Indiana today. Those who support in-state tuition for illegals know that their law cannot survive public or lawmaker scrutiny due to massive public opposition."

A Rasmussen national poll in 2007 found 81% of Americans oppose in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. JWP Civitas polling in North Carolina in 2005 found the same ratio of 81% opposition.

ALIPAC helped defeat in-state tuition for illegals in NC in 2005 and since then has gone on to stop similar legislation in over 20 states! ALIPAC's activists moved against HB 1326 yesterday with only a few hours of notice and are being asked to return to the phones today to bombard the Indiana Senate with calls against in-state tuition for illegals in HB 1326.

"Our concern is that Indiana state lawmakers are still not fully aware that they are on the verge of passing in-state tuition for illegal aliens, which is opposed by 4 out of 5 of their constituents," said William Gheen. "We need American defenders from coast to coast flooding their offices with calls of protest today to get their attention and stop this bill!"

ALIPAC will be issuing a second email alert to the group's over 40,000 national supporters Thursday morning. Copies of this alert will be available at www.alipac.us

ALIPAC and 81% of Americans oppose in-state tuition for illegal aliens because it forces taxpayers to pay to replace their own children in the limited seats in American colleges with illegal immigrants.

While more than 30 states have rejected this measure, thirteen states passed in-state tuition for illegals: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. However, Oklahoma ended their support in 2008, and Maryland voters are likely to overturn their in-state tuition for illegals law this November via a ballot initiative.
