Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s lobby group FWD.us showcased on Tuesday the illegal immigrants who will be participating in the organization’s pro-amnesty hackathon later in the month.
In a company blog post, FWD.us founder and president Joe Green explained that the 20 participants will form teams with experienced mentors to create prototypes of products that promote Silicon Valley’s immigration reform agenda.
Zuckerberg, along with LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, Groupon founder and former CEO Andrew Mason, and Dropbox founder and CEO Drew Houston are among the expected mentors for the event.

The announcement comes a week after FWD.us, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from across the nation’s tech industry met with House Republicans to ramp up pressure to bring immigration reform legislation to a vote.
The hackathon teams will compete in the contest, or hackathon,from Nov. 20 to 21 at the Mountain View, Calif. headquarters of LinkedIn, the business social network.
“Teams will begin strategizing together in the next few weeks, with their work culminating in 24 straight hours of coding at LinkedIn HQ,” said Green.
The participants — many of whom are college students in their twenties planning to pursue careers in the technology industry — live in Arizona, California, New York, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Virginia. Most of them were brought to the U.S. as small children by one or both of their parents.
“For these 20 DREAMers — and the millions of others like them — we simply can’t afford to wait any longer,” said Green, speaking of his group’s push to reform the nation’s immigration laws.
