Border Patrol apprehends two immigrants at Falfurrias checkpoint

Border Patrol agents arrested the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix on Thursday at the Falfurrias checkpoint, where they found two Mexican men hiding in the trunk.

Agents arrested the driver, Mark Allen Havens of Aransas Pass, according to the criminal complaint against him.

Federal Magistrate Judge B. Janice Ellington charged Havens with knowingly or recklessly transporting aliens in violation of the law.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Havens.

Border Patrol agents stopped Havens at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, when he arrived at the Falfurrias checkpoint driving a gold 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, according to the criminal complaint.

While Havens talked with the Border Patrol agents, a K-9 named “Tyson-E” alerted to the Grand Prix, according to the criminal complaint. Agents found two Mexican men hiding in the trunk.

“Both subjects appeared to be sweating profusely, and were immediately escorted into the checkpoint for their safety and to allow them to cool down,” according to the criminal complaint. “An immigration inspection of both individuals confirmed that they were illegally present in the United States.”

Havens told Border Patrol agents that he was an unemployed electrician who cut lawns to pay the bills.

During the interview, Havens said he purchased the Grand Prix in Aransas Pass and drove to Port Isabel to visit his cousin, according to the criminal complaint. When his cousin wasn’t available, Havens drove west to Hidalgo County and eventually reached the Flying “J” truck stop on U.S. 281.

“Havens stated that he had gotten confused and was not familiar with the roads in this area,” according to the criminal complaint. “Havens continued to be evasive in his demeanor and repeatedly stated that he did not know how the two subjected had gotten into his trunk.”

Havens apparently changed his mind at 10:45 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

“At approximately 2245 hours, Havens requested to speak with (a Border Patrol agent) and stated that he was willing to cooperate with information in regards to other smugglers involved in this case if he was released,” according to the criminal complaint. “(The Border Patrol agent) advised Havens that the case was being prosecuted but that his willingness to cooperate would be noted.”

Our Border Patrol Agents are doing the best they can, with essentially zero support from 'Bamacrats. But our southern border is too long to be effectively sealed.

Most of the illegals are sneaking in to our country, to get better jobs or more pay for jobs that they're already doing in their own countries. The best support which we can give our Border Patrol is to shut off the jobs magnet. Universal E-Verify will do more to seal the border than will anything else that we could do.
