U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Maritime Task Force intercepted 15 people on Sunday who were allegedly involved in smuggling undocumented immigrants into this country via sailboat, officials said.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, when agents intercepted the boat as it docked at Harbor Island. An immigration inspection revealed that six people on the sail boat had entered the United States illegally.

Agents arrested the undocumented immigrants and nine other people believed to be involved in the smuggling attempt.

The group was transported to a local Border Patrol station for processing, booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego, and face multiple federal charges. The sail boat was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
