Police found and took into custody 10 undocumented Haitian immigrants walking in the North End Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to a call around 4:15 p.m. and found the group, which included a boat captain, walking south near Mediterranean Road. There were six men, two women and two girls, according to Capt. Curtis Krauel.

Police found the group’s abandoned 26-foot sailboat near the inlet jetty, he said.
In addition to Palm Beach Police, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office marine unit and helicopter and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Palm Beach Fire-Rescue also arrived to treat minor scrapes on one of the women.

Krauel said he’s “fairly confident” they located everyone on board.

The group was turned over to U.S. Border Patrol, and the boat was turned over to Homeland Security, he said.
