N.C. State Chief Wants In-State Rates For Immigrant Students

    http://www.nbc17.com/education/9409531/detail.html

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The provost at N.C. State University wants his fellow educators to push for a change in state law that allows immigrants to get in-state tuition rates. Larry Nielsen spoke in favor of the change yesterday at a conference on higher education and Hispanics.

North Carolina's public colleges are getting ready for a fight to recruit foreign-born and second-generation immigrant students who may not even be thinking about higher education.

Some other states already allow foreign-born students to attend their colleges at in-state rates. But it's a hot issue. Last year, a bill that would have changed tuition rules in North Carolina drew so much criticism that almost a third of its sponsors asked to have their names removed.

The measure would have let children of illegal immigrants pay in-state tuition if they graduated after four years at a North Carolina high school and applied for legal immigrant status.

    In-state tuition

These illegal alien pandering politicians, illegal alien advocates and dead beat illegal alien parasites can push taxpayers only so far and I think we are at the breaking point. Those idiot politicians and illegal alien handlers seem to forget we don't have an unlimited treasury as most of them pay little in taxes to begin with. It is time for Americans to get rid of these useless wastes of taxpayer dollars in November.

They did this in Texas and I wish they would come clean about the impact.

I was in college a few years ago and the State cut funding to Colleges and Universities. The tuition went up at the University of Texas. Wonder how much money they lost supporting the illegal alien students. Also, at the Community College due to the funding cuts, they were closing all classes that didn't fill to capacity. That was a real problem registering for classes. You could have your whole schedule worked out and get bumped out of a class or not be able to get into one. It was bad.

The legislature in Raleigh approved the stupidest thing last summer that will give all "full scholarship recipients" in-state status. This means taxpayers will have to cover about $15,000 per year per person at current rates for athletic and merit scholarship people.

This will allow organizations to award more scholarships so taxpayers can cover more of their tuition.

I ask you how many ball players can be on a team anyway?

I know funding to universities here has been cut for at least the last four years, too.

I caught it on their late cable news. It was like night an day. He seemed fairly nervous and W was calm and matter of fact. Very short clip but I noticed that when Nielsen started talking about feelings he first used the word "we" feel that... and quickly changed it to "I" feel that...

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- A top academic at North Carolina State University on Thursday told a conference on higher education that educators should do everything possible to change state law and give in-state college tuition to children of illegal immigrants.

"We should, I think, be helping achieve their goals and be educated citizens who can contribute to the economy of North Carolina," said Provost Larry Neilsen.

Last year, a plan that would give in-state tuition did not get anywhere in the General Assembly, but Nielsen said the effort needs to be revived.

An opponent of the bill suggests demonstrators should have lined up outside Nielsen's office door after his comments.

Since the bill failed last year, it can't be introduced again in the General Assembly until 2007.

How about this plan instead, we deport all of them and let their home countries educate them.
    REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!
