A Mexican man wanted in his native country for aggravated homicide was deported for the third time in seven years by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, officials said.

Roman Tepozotlan-Mendoza, 50, was turned over to Mexican authorities Thursday at the Lincoln Juarez Bridge in Laredo, according to an ICE San Antonio press release.

He was arrested by Border Patrol in October for illegally re-entering the United States near Del Rio, officials said.

Prosecuted for re-entry after deportation, he was sentenced to serve 60 days jail time, according to the release.

After he completed his sentence, he was transferred to ICE custody where he remained until he was sent back to Mexico on Thursday.

"His case should send a message to others like him that the United States will not be used as a safe haven for those fleeing justice,” said Enrique M. Lucero, San Antonio Field Office Director.

Tepozotlan-Mendoza was first sent back to Mexico in May 2008 from El Dorado, Arkansas, after an immigration judge issued a final order for his removal.

He illegally re-entered the U.S. four years later and was arrested in February 2012 by the Mesquite Police Department on criminal charges.

Officials said he was turned over to ICE and deported to Mexico the same month.
