Action on Immigration Reform? Schumer, Reid, Durbin Give GOP House an Or Else Deadlin

Action on Immigration Reform? Schumer, Reid, Durbin Give GOP House an ‘Or Else’ Deadline

Even though a very low percentage of Americans thinks immigration reform is a critical issue facing the country right now (see our recent report on Gallup survey results), leading Democrat senators continue to stir that hot-button political pot.
One of those pot-stirring Dems is ultra-lib New York Senator Chuck Schumer, who adds his voice to the liberal chorus threatening House Republicans with an “or else” ultimatum on immigration reform (amnesty). That “or else” — executive action by President Obama, who, they say, would take the threatened “pen and a phone” approach to getting things done.
The deadline for congressional action, according to Schumer (D-NY), Reid (D-NV) and Durbin (D-IL) is the August recess. Boehner and company, they say, have to get it done by the time Congress takes off for its end-of-summer break.
In typical, Constitution-ignoring, separation-of-powers violating, liberal tyranny speak, Schumer told a press gathering:
“If they [the GOP-controlled House] don’t pass immigration reform then, the president will have no choice but to act on his own. We’d much rather pass legislation….”
In times past, issuing that kind of anti-Constitution threat might have been considered a violation of the senator’s oath of office.
