While Donald Trump’s stance on illegal#Immigration is being softened to some extent, his former rival for the presidency, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas is going all out to block illegal immigrants from getting means-tested welfare benefits and from having a path to citizenship. Cruz has filed a number of amendments to an immigration reform bill that would accomplish both goals.

One amendment would block anyone who entered or remained in the country (by outstaying their visa) from receiving any welfare benefit or from being enrolled for health care insurance under Obamacare regardless of their current status. That means even if an illegal immigrant has his or her status legalized they would be prohibited from getting federal, state, or local benefits. Another amendment would block the path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

The two amendments would remove an incentive for people crossing the border illegally or overstaying their visa. The act of breaking immigration laws would bar illegal immigrants from gaining public benefits and from obtaining citizenship.

The flow of illegal immigrants into the United States would be diminished as a result, at least so goes the theory. Those who are in the country already illegally and who had been on public assistance would have an incentive to return to their country of origin.

Not coincidentally, the amendments would position Cruz as a hardliner on illegal immigration just while Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, has started to back away from his plan to deport all 11 million of those who are in the country illegally. Cruz can claim that he and not Trump is the purest opponent of illegal immigration.

Of course, it goes without saying that an immigration reform bill with Cruz’s provisions would be filibustered by Senate Democrats or vetoed by President Obama if it came to his desk. The amendments would block a long-held dream by Democrats of giving citizenship to illegal immigrants in exchange for their votes. And there you have it. The goal of the Trojan Horse, Kellyanne Conway. She costs Trump the election. Cruz runs in 2020 against Hillary and Conway rises with Cruz in whom she is a true believer. And that is what she's doing. Kellyanne is a Cruz-backing NEVERTRUMP plant in the Trump Campaign.

She has to be demoted, then forced to resign. NOW. No more TV interviews, no more contact with the Media. I think she has been one of the primary "sources" for the negative coverage for the Media for quite awhile now.

That crossed my mind when read she was a cruz backer but now for trump. She lives or has an office in Trump's building. They are acquainted but he has made a mistake with her - she could be a spoiler for cruz.

The tactic coming from cruz would not surprise me. Maybe that was worked out on the obama plane ride with cruz as he posed with the girls in hillary t shirts. And now he is speaking tough on illegal immigration to grab spotlight - he is a spoiler for sure.

I'd bet my last dollar Kellyanne was one of the 3 sources who spoke with Univision.

cruz would be morphing big time if he had rec'd the nomination. Trump is responding to pressure from RNC to soften because the lower ticket is worried they will lose seats. It seems to be a pre-election enticement meant for those upset by Trump's words. Do not see Trump doing a major turnaround.

Trump won't turnaround on illegal immigration at all in any way. He wants them out as much as we do. He knows they're a drain on the treasury, a drain on jobs for our workers, a drain on wages, a drain on education and medical services, a lure for more illegal immigration, and a base of operation for criminals, drug runners, foreign drug cartels and other foreign criminal enterprises. He knows this. He wants all this out of our country. There is no contribution or net positive from illegal immigration, none, zero, zip. Trump is a numbers guy, he knows this and he's not going to let his Presidency suffer the numbers drain these people cause.

And exactly how do you know these things? Is it because you're a mind reader ...... or do you just have a crystal ball? It's a fair question because nobody except Donald Trump knows exactly what Donald Trump is thinking. You could at least clarify by saying it's what you think Trump is thinking, but please don't attempt to tell us what Donald himself is actually thinking.

No, it's just common business sense based on what he actually says. Apparently some of us have it, and some don't. To right a sinking ship you get the dead weight out of it and seal the hole. I don't know if I need to take the time to explain what the dead weight is to you or what should be sealed, so I think I won't.
