EL PASO — A police officer was killed and two others were wounded in an ambush outside an Auto Zone store in Juárez, police officials said Wednesday.

The off-duty officers were in a Lincoln Town Car when they were fired on Tuesday evening on Avenida 16 de Septiembre and Venezuela streets.

Abraham Carrillo Carrillo, 25, died in the back seat. Felipe Galindo Reyes, 36, who was driving, was critically wounded. Jose Nabor Alarcon Rami rez, 25, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Carrillo is the second officer slain in less than a week despite the presence of more than 2,000 Mexican army soldiers in an attempt to quell fighting among rival drug cartels.
