Yuma, Ariz. – United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector seized 2,127 pounds of marijuana this morning.
At 2:30 a.m., Yuma Sector agents discovered the tracks of a vehicle that entered the United States illegally in a remote area in the Tinajas Atlas Mountain Range, 20 miles south of Wellton. After four hours of searching for the vehicle, Border Patrol agents, assisted by a service K-9, located an abandoned truck within the Barry M. Goldwater Bombing Range. Border Patrol agents discovered multiple bundles of marijuana loaded inside the truck.
The marijuana, which had an estimated street value of $ 1,701,600.00, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
After a comprehensive search of the area, Border Patrol agents determined that the vehicle occupants had absconded into Mexico.
