Federal officers found hundreds of packages of marijuana worth about $3.8 million in a semi-truck trailer at the Otay Mesa border last week, authorities said Wednesday.

The haul was reported as electronics when the tractor and trailer pulled into the Otay Mesa cargo inspection facility about 3 p.m. Nov. 9, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

A drug-sniffing dog, however, reacted to the trailer while it was waiting in line to undergo an x-ray screening, officials said. Customs officers opened the trailer and found 319 packages of pot inside boxes within boxes.

Combined, the parcels contained 7,600 pounds of marijuana, which had an estimated street value of $3.8 million, officials said.

Customs officers seized the tractor, trailer and narcotics.
