NOGALES, AZ (KPHO) -
Customs and Border Protection officers have intercepted nearly $300,000 of undeclared U.S. currency bound for Mexico.

A 59-year-old Mexican national was arrested at the Dennis DeConcini Port on smuggling charges.

A currency and weapons detection canine alerted officers to the center console of the man's vehicle. Officers said they located a non-factory compartment containing several wrapped packages of U.S. currency.

The vehicle and currency were seized. The driver was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
