Iranian Immigrants Want Farsi-Language Oklahoma Driver’s License Testing

OKLAHOMA CITY — The federal government is investigating whether the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety violated the civil rights of Iranian immigrants by refusing to provide them with driver’s license tests in their native Farsi language.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched the investigation in March after a complaint filed on behalf of two Iranian nationals living in Bartlesville accused the state agency of unlawful discrimination based on their national origin, according to a letter from the NHTSA to Public Safety Commissioner Kevin Ward.

Public safety officials said Tuesday that offering state driver’s license tests in Farsi could force the state to offer tests and other state documents in a host of other languages, creating new costs and administrative burdens. The written portion of Oklahoma’s test is currently provided only in English and Spanish.

Welcome to American, now speak english! The nerve of these people demanding that things be changed to benefit them! I'm glad that they were inconvenienced and had to drive elsewhere to take the test! ASIMILATE ALREADY and be grateful to be here in the first place!

You see what happens when our government caters to one particular group (hispanics) Everyone else feels left out and wants to be accommodated as well.

OK needs to pass a law making English is the official language of OK so all official state communications are conducted in English.

People who can't read and write in English cannot read road signs so they are a safety hazard.

The federal government can't dictate to a state who they license under The Full Faith and Credit Clause.

The Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution generally requires states to recognize out-of-state court judgments. The Constitution otherwise leaves each state with the authority to decide who is licensed to do what within that state. Thus, a state has no constitutional obligation to recognize driver's licenses from other states. whether states just do it as a matter of "comity," which is to say out of a desire to work well with other states (and to get reciprocity for their own citizens).[b]

It is quite insulting and patronizing to immigrate to a country and expect it to adapt to the very things one left behind. This is the behavior of a conqueror, not an immigrant."

Your right IndianaJones! Our government has continued to cater to hispanics, despite a substantial majority of Americans expressing their desire they not be given preferential accommodations regarding spanish, for their unwillingness to speak English in this country!

See what happens when our government does not carry out the will of the people!

What about simply adopting the Kansas exam which uses "graphic symbols to test driving skills" for all those who do not speak English if this exam has proven effective? Saves time and money from lawsuits!
