17 STATES SUE TRUMP ADMIN OVER THE SEPARATION OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AT THE BORDER

    7:46 PM 06/26/2018

    Ryan Pickrell

Seventeen states and Washington, D.C., are suing the Trump administration over the separation of illegal immigrant families at the border.

New York, California, and fifteen other states led by Democratic attorneys general filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Seattle Tuesday, marking the first legal action taken by states in response to the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policies and the resulting separation of families, the Associated Press reported.

The situation at the border has been described by critics of the current administration as a humanitarian disaster. Having issued a clear warning, the administration is attempting to prosecute all illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S., although resources are stretched thin.

The administration’s decision to fully enforce U.S. immigration law has led to the separation of family units caught crossing into the U.S. in a manner in violation of U.S. law. More than two thousand illegal immigrant children were separated from their parents prior to a recent executive order from the president that would detain illegal immigrant families together rather than separate them.

Customs and Border Protection has reunited over five hundred children with their parents since the “zero tolerance” policies went into effect. Nonetheless, the outrage persists. Thousands of activists and demonstrators protested in cities across the country in defense of illegal immigrants, calling for an end to the separation of families at the border.

“The administration’s practice of separating families is cruel, plain and simple,” New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a statement to NBC, “Every day, it seems like the administration is issuing new, contradictory policies and relying on new, contradictory justifications. But we can’t forget: the lives of real people hang in the balance.”

Earlier Tuesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo revealed his state’s intention to sue the federal government. “New York and 15 other states are suing the federal government today,” he said, adding, “We’re asking a federal district court to stop the federal government from this policy of separating families.”

The lawsuit is also critical of the perceived lack of due process for illegal immigrants.

17 states sue to force Trump administration to reunite migrant families separated at border

    June 26, 2018

Seventeen states, including Washington, New York, California and Illinois, sued President Donald Trump's administration Tuesday in an effort to force officials to reunite migrant families who have been separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The states, all of which are led by Democratic attorneys general, joined Washington, D.C., in filing the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Seattle. It's the first legal challenge by states over the practice.

"The administration's practice of separating families is cruel, plain and simple," New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in an emailed statement. "Every day, it seems like the administration is issuing new, contradictory policies and relying on new, contradictory justifications. But we can't forget: the lives of real people hang in the balance."

Immigration authorities have separated about 2,300 children from their parents in recent weeks, sparking global outrage as images and recordings of weeping children emerged. Many parents are in custody thousands of miles from their children, whom they have not been able to see and have rarely spoken to for a month or more.

After falsely blaming Democrats for the separations and insisting that only Congress could fix the issue, the president last week issued an executive order designed to end the practice under his "zero tolerance" policy, which prosecutes adults who come to the U.S. illegally.
But the states say his order is riddled with caveats and fails to reunite parents and children who have already been torn apart. They accuse the administration of denying the parents and children due process; denying the immigrants, many of whom are fleeing gang violence in Central America, their right to seek asylum; and being arbitrary in applying the policy.

A U.S. judge in San Diego already is considering whether to issue a nationwide injunction sought by the American Civil Liberties Union that would order the administration to reunite the separated children with their parents.

A Seattle-based immigrant rights group sued Monday on behalf of detained asylum-seekers in Washington state who have been separated from their children.

The states that sued are Massachusetts, California, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.

JUST IN: 17 States and DC Sue Trump Admin Over Separation of Illegal Alien Families at Border

    June 26, 2018

    Cristina Laila

On Tuesday, Attorneys General from seventeen states and D.C. sued the Trump administration over separation of illegal alien families at the US-Mexico border.

This is the first legal challenge over this practice.

    Fox News reported:

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Seattle, is the first legal challenge by states over the practice.

The states which joined the lawsuit are California, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington. All have Democratic attorneys general.

“The administration’s practice of separating families is cruel, plain and simple,” New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in an emailed statement. “Every day, it seems like the administration is issuing new, contradictory policies and relying on new, contradictory justifications. But we can’t forget: the lives of real people hang in the balance.”

Trump signed an executive order last week that was designed to end the separations under his “zero tolerance” policy, which prosecutes all adults who come to the U.S. illegally.

However, the lawsuit claims the order is riddled with caveats and fails to reunite parents and children who have already been torn apart. They accuse the administration of denying the parents and children due process; denying the immigrants, many of whom are fleeing gang violence in Central America, their right to seek asylum; and being arbitrary in applying the policy.

Over 500 children have already been reunited with their families and the Trump administration is working to reunite the other 2,000 children with family members.

Fake news media latched onto a new narrative recently since the Trump-Russia hoax is running dry.

The Obama administration detained children and kept them in cages wrapped in foil and nobody cared.

President Trump is applying the law in order to reduce illegal immigration and the left is losing their minds.

The truth is most illegal alien minors show up to the US border by themselves after smugglers drop them off:

Kirstjen Nielsen: So I want to be clear on a couple things. The vast majority, vast, vast, majority of the children who are in the care of HHS right now, 10,000 of the 12,000, were sent here alone by their parents. That’s when they were separated. Somehow we’ve conflated everything.
