198,172 Businesses Listed in our E-Verify Database

    July 6, 2011, 12:21 PM EDT

Almost 200,000 businesses are now listed in our E-Verify database. http://www.numbersusa.org/everify

This feature allows you to search for businesses that are protecting American workers by ensuring that all their new hires are authorized to work in the United States.

Currently, more than 260,000 businesses use E-Verify at nearly 1 million worksites nationwide. An additional 1,000 employers begin using the system each week.

By searching through our E-Verify database, you can find restaurants, retailers, remodelers, auto mechanics and many other businesses in your community that are using E-Verify. (NOTE: Very small businesses are not included in our searchable database. This information is not currently available from the Department of Homeland Security. Just because a business does not appear in our database does not automatically mean they are not using E-Verify.)

If you haven't recently used our E-Verify database, or if you're new to the feature, you'll find that our tech team has made several improvements to make searching more user-friendly.

The new search engine allows you to use partial names, addresses, and zip codes to search for a broad range of businesses. Or, you can look for a specific business if you have all their information.

Please visit our E-Verify search tool and find businesses that are protecting America's unemployed.

E-Verify is an online application managed by the Department of Homeland Security. It accesses information stored in already-exisiting government databases to ensure that an applicant is eligible to work in the United States.

E-Verify provides an immediate confirmation for 98.3% of the individuals checked by the system.

The remaining 1.7% either receive a confirmation after clearing up common discrepancies found in their social security records or are found to be unauthorized for work in the United States.

Thirteen states currently have a mandatory E-Verify law in place.
