Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office, known as the PGR, announced the sentencing of two men in connection with a case of immigrant smuggling.

Javier Garnica Diaz and Gavino Arano Capetillo were sentenced to four years one month and 15 days in prison on the charge of engaging in organized criminal activity. They were sent to the Reynosa prison.

The two men had been apprehended in 2009 by the Mexican military at a house near Calle Segunda and Independencia in the Arboledas neighborhood in Reynosa.

The two men had been guarding a security house where 19 immigrants were being kept. The immigrants were from various nationalities and were to be smuggled into the U.S. illegally in exchange for cash.
