A day of protests against the nation’s immigration policies brought thousands into the sweltering downtown and ended with arrests at the steps of the South Bay House of Correction last night where ICE houses illegal migrants.
Suffolk County correction officers arrested about 20 protesters outside the jail after more than 100 activists filled the street taking positions on the stairway, leading into the building.

Once they moved to the top step, they were warned and then arrested.

Earlier at City Hall Plaza, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren called for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be replaced with “something that reflects our morality” as thousands cheered.

“This is about human beings,” Warren said to the crowd, in what has become a midterm rallying point among Democrats.

“This is about children held in cages. This is about babies scattered across the country. This is about mamas who want their children back.

This is ugly. This is wrong and this is not the way to run our country. We cannot be silent. We will build a country that reflects our values.”

The crowd marched from City Hall to Boston Common to protest President Trump’s immigration detention policies and the Supreme Court decision to uphold the so-called Muslim travel ban, arguing the government is tearing apart families. There were no arrests reported there, police said.

The Rally Against Family Separation, organized by a coalition of civil rights groups, immigrant advocates and labor unions, was part of a national wave of protests played out in more than 700 marches.

Trump tweeted yesterday as protesters began to mobilize that ICE agents were keeping the nation safe.

“To the great and brave men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit. You are doing a fantastic job of keeping us safe by eradicating the worst criminal elements. So brave! The radical left Dems want you out. Next it will be all police. Zero chance. It will never happen!” he said.

But scores of marchers called for easing up on jailing illegal immigrant children.

“It’s wrong. It’s horrible to put children in cages and separate them,” said Marissa Junkins, 27, of Weymouth, at the Boston Common rally.

“It is the worst thing you could do to families.

These families deserve to be reunited. It is basic empathy. It feels like we should be moving forward but we’re taking 10 steps back instead.”

U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III, who has pounced on the immigration issue, said: “We’re here to reaffirm something that should never have to be said ... that children belong with their parents.”

Brazilian immigrant Sirley Silveira Paixao, 30, sobbed as she asked for help being reunited with her son, Diego, after they surrendered for asylum at the U.S. and Mexico border in May.

They were separated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and while she visited him at the Office of Refugee and Resettlement run facility in Chicago, she was told he would not be released.

“We are desperate mothers trying to reunite with our children,” Silveira Paixao said onstage to rallygoers.

“I want all the children to be reunited with their parents. We deserve this. We came to the United States seeking help. We never imagined this could happen. Please release these children and give my son back to me.”

It is about "human beings" who BREAK our laws and teach their children to break laws and bust into another country.

What human being drags their kid 2,000 miles from home? Has 6 kids and shows up on our doorstep pregnant with another one? That is not a human being...that is disgusting!

What human being gives coyotes 6 GRAND but will not pay 2 BUCKS for birth control? This is disgusting!

What human being...mother, father, aunt, uncle, parents do not stay and fight for their own country? Flee like cowards and then MOUTH off in our streets waving their flags? That is no human being! That is a culture of people who only come here for the FREE stuff!

    NOW SEND THEM BACK!

CUT OFF ALL FREEBIES AND CUT OFF THE FOREIGN AID TO MEXICO AND CENTRAL AMERICA!

THEY NEED TO CLEAN UP THEIR OWN MESS! NOT COME HERE AND DESTROY OUR COUNTRY!

MAYBE THEY SHOULD BEHAVE LIKE "HUMAN BEINGS" ON THEIR SOIL AND BUILD UP THEIR OWN COUNTRY!

YOU EARN RESPECT...NOT INVADE OUR COUNTRY.
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

Those values you're speaking of, Elizabeth Warren, didn't seem to matter when Obama was our President but they do now? Such hypocrites. This is all political maneuvering for the upcoming elections. I hope it blows up in the lefts face!
