CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Three people are in custody and a manhunt is on for one more after a shootout in the streets of Casa Grande Saturday afternoon.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m. northwest of Pinal Avenue near Interstate 10. Casa Grande police officers were investigating a suspicious incident when bullets started flying.

It started with a call from a resident who reported shots fired in the area. That man said he was walking in the neighborhood when somebody fired in his direction. He said he was nearly hit.

According to Cmdr. Mike Keck of the Casa Grande Police Department, two patrol officers responded and found several individuals in the desert area north of the community. As the officers approached those men, the suspects pulled out weapons and opened fire.

"They then got into a vehicle and fled the scene," Keck said.

That vehicle was located a short time later in a nearby neighborhood.

"We have captured three of the four individuals who were seen out in that area," Keck said. "We are currently looking for the fourth individual. We believe he fled into the desert area on foot. We believe he is still armed with a rifle."

Several different agencies are involved in the search for the fourth suspect, including the Casa Grande Police Department, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Border Patrol.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
