310 vials of 'date rape' drug found in vehicle trying to enter U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials found more than 300 vials of animal tranquilizers inside a woman’s vehicle at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, Ariz., on Tuesday.

Border officials searched the vehicle of 51-year-old Josefina Irene Dominguez on a routine search, took the vials and referred her to the Homeland Security Investigations for prosecution, said Juan Osorio, a public affairs liaison with the port of Nogales.

“If you are trying to hide it, your intentions are not good,” Osorio said. “310 vials. It is significant.”

The drugs were put in a seizure vault where they will remain until the case has been closed, Osorio said.

According to the the Drug Enforcement Administration, the tasteless, odorless anesthetic is sometimes referred to as a “date rape” drug as it causes memory loss, he said.

In Nogales there are four ports of entry into the United States, Osorio said. The Mariposa Port, where the seizure took place, was under construction and had six lanes open at the time. The port will open in summer of 2014 with 13 traffic lanes.

Not true, each use only takes a few drops and a single vial depending the size could be used for maybe 5 women. Try closer to 1500+

It is also know as Special K and is used willingly by people at clubs and raves. Law enforcement refers to it as "The Date Rape Drug" because that makes it easier to get a conviction.

    Nonmedical use
Nonmedical use of ketamine was documented in the early 1970s in underground literature (see The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers). It was used in psychiatric and other academic research through the 1970s, culminating in 1978 with the publishing of psychonaut John Lilly's The Scientist and Marcia Moore and Howard Alltounian's Journeys into the Bright World, which documented the unusual phenomenology of ketamine intoxication.[52] The incidence of nonmedical ketamine use increased through the end of the century, especially in the context of raves and other parties.[53][54][55][56][57] However, its emergence as a club drug differs from other club drugs (e.g. MDMA) due to its anesthetic properties (e.g., slurred speech, immobilization) at higher doses;[57] in addition, reports of ketamine being sold as "ecstasy" are common.[58] The use of ketamine as part of a "post-clubbing experience" has also been documented.[59] Ketamine's rise in the dance culture was most rapid in Hong Kong by the end of the 1990s.[57]

    CBP Officers Intercept ‘Date-Rape’ Drug

    (Wednesday, October 24, 2012)

Nogales, Ariz. — A female Mexican national was apprehended yesterday after Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa Port discovered the she was in possession of animal tranquilizers often used in the commission of sexual assaults.
Officers referred Josefina Irene Dominguez, 51, for additional questioning and a vehicle search when she attempted to enter the United States. Officers found 310 vials of ketamine inside the vehicle.

The Drug Enforcement Administration describes ketamine as a clear, odorless and tasteless liquid developed in the early 1960s to replace Phencyclidine (PCP) as an anesthetic. Since ketamine also induces amnesia, it is sometimes given to unsuspecting victims prior to the commission of sexual assaults. This illegal practice is referred to as “drug rape” or “date rape.”

The drugs were seized. Dominguez was referred for prosecution.
Officers found 310 vials of ketamine inside the vehicle.
Individuals arrested are charged with a criminal complaint, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
