448 Nepalese Detained In US For Violating Immigration Laws

KATHMANDU, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 448 Nepalese nationals were detained in the United States from Oct 1, 2013 to Sept 30 this year for illegal entry and violating immigration laws, said the US Department of Homeland Security.

The Immigration Enforcement Action 2013 report said the figure is an increase from 248 in the previous year.

A number of Nepalese youths were lured by human traffickers with the promise of jobs in the US.

The human traffickers were found to be using long routes via various countries in South America to smuggle job seekers from Asia and Africa to the US.

Costa Rican police arrested 36 Nepalese in September while 13 were detained in Colombo in April this year.
