5,100 crosses at Mexico border mark migrant deaths

TIJUANA, Mexico — Rights activists in the northern Mexican border city of Tijuana have hung 5,100 small white crosses on the fence straddling the U.S. frontier to commemorate migrants who have died trying to cross.

The protest coincides with preparations for Mexico's Nov. 1 Day of the Dead holiday. The crosses represent the number of migrants estimated to have died in the 15 years since the United States toughened border security.

The Coalition for the Defense of Migrants also erected a traditional floral offering for the dead.

The Mexican government estimates about 350,000 of its citizens migrate to the U.S. annually.

Amen and Amen! At least those crosses could represent the American people who didn't die after making the free will choice to break the law! As usual, these people have only themselves to blame!

25 a day, victims of some kind of crime committed by illegal aliens and 12 of which lose their lives every day...that would be alot of crosses on the American side!

Now days one of our problems is they refuse to report the crime was even committed by an illegal alien, infact I have a feeling they are hiding alot of their names altogether, if we know their last name we will be "Racial Profiling".

Absolutely, illegals knew the risks they were taking by crossing illegally. Americans never saw what was coming when the illegals took their lives.

W, you may be on to something here. Just think about the visual impact and the message that thousands of crosses would send to the public at large. Why not put this idea into effect at one of the bigger Tea Parties Against Amnesty? I think your idea bares further serious consideration.

Gee, I wonder why these "activists" aren't marching in Mexico City, demanding the government take better care of its own citizens? They are not our problem.

The Mexican Government has no shame when reporting their own citizens think taking a chance on commiting suicide (I call it suicide since they know the risks) by crossing a desert is preferable to living in their own country.

If our so called tougher border measures are responsible, then why do these people continue to enter this country illegally, with full knowledge of the potential consequences?

That tells me out so called tougher border measures are not tough enough! These so called activists will lie and distort anything for their ultimate goal of eradicating all borders and laws pertaining to immigration.

The White House Lawn would be a good place for that. As for timing it would optimal when amnesty is being discussed.
