The driver was an American citizen and the people were loaded into the trailer in the U.S. so it was most likely an American truck.

A California truck driver is charged with transporting undocumented immigrants inside a refrigerated tractor trailer in southern Arizona.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers say they found 97 people inside the truck. Luis Antonio Mendoza, 26, of Fresno Calif., faces federal charges related to the alleged smuggling.

The U.S. Attorney’s office also said the illegal immigrants paid between $1,000 and $3,000 to be smuggled into the US near Nogales and that Mendoza was paid $300 per person to transport them in the very cold truck.

While Kelly declined to discuss many of the details of the case because of the ongoing investigation, he did say the group was loaded into the trailer in the United States and may have been in the refrigerated trailer for about 40 minutes.

To add insult to injury, the 97 illegals are now going to get processed by ICE. What a chilling thought.

The refrigeration unit at the front of the trailer showed the temperature inside: 34 degrees.
The pallets of mangoes left little room for people to move around. Everyone inside the trailer was responsive, and no one needed any medical attention, Serino said.
Ive bought and eaten my last mango.................

Why isnt the fda involved in this?

California man driving truck carrying illegal immigrants indicted on smuggling charges

    Associated Press

    Last update: August 27, 2009 - 4:58 PM

TUCSON, Ariz. - A man arrested in Arizona while driving a refrigerated truck carrying nearly 100 illegal immigrants has been indicted on federal smuggling charges.

Court documents show 26-year-old Luis Antonio Mendoza was indicted Wednesday on five counts of transporting illegal immigrants for profit and one conspiracy count.

The Fresno, Calif., man was arrested July 29 after an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer pulled over the truck for an equipment violation about 10 miles north of the Mexican border.

The officer discovered 97 immigrants from Mexico and Guatemala in the trailer along with 17 pallets of mangoes. The temperature inside was 34 degrees.

Authorities say the immigrants hadn't been in the trailer very long and no one was injured.

Mendoza is set to be arraigned Sept. 10. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
