LOL........drinking milkshakes and soup isn't "fasting"

Let 'em do what Ghandi did, or actually starve to death like IRA members have done and then they can tell us all about their little protests.

In the meantime, I'm not impressed.

Oh, and while they're so busy with their "fast", perhaps they should read some FACTUAL history about Chavez who was flat out against illegal aliens and even took matters into his own hands to stop them at the border

Dozens of community activists are going on a weeklong hunger strike in the hopes of increasing public pressure on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The fast got underway Sunday night at Santa Rita Hall near 7th Street and Buckeye Road in Phoenix.

In 1972, Cesar Chavez fasted at Santa Rita Hall for the fair treatment of farm workers.

Thirty-seven years later, the reason that brings this generation of activists together, they say, remains the same.

"This is a historic place and we're also going to be trying to make history here," Chris Fleischman of Phoenix.

Maricopa Citizens for Safety & Accountability launched the campaign, which organizers say is aimed at ending injustice.

Unlike their predecessors, who rallied against growers, this group has its sights set on Arpaio.

"We stand together and demand a shift in emphasis from publicity stunts and racial profiling to real law enforcement in Maricopa County," said Jason Odhner of Phoenix.

Over the next week, the activists will combine action, prayer and fasting with the goal of ratcheting up public pressure on Arpaio.

"He's not using authority the way he should," said activist Ayensa Millan. "He does abuse it and harasses law abiding citizens."

Like Cesar Chavez before them, the activists hope their efforts will result in equal treatment not just for some in Maricopa County but rather, they say, for everyone.

"We're going to show him it's not Joe's law that matters in this county, it's the US constitution, and that has in it civil rights," said Fleischman.

"If they want to starve, I'm not going to stop them," Arpaio said in a statement released to ABC15 Sunday night.

    Go Sheriff Joe!!

"We stand together and demand a shift in emphasis from publicity stunts and racial profiling to real law enforcement in Maricopa County," said Jason Odhner of Phoenix.
Well that would mean arresting and deporting all illegals. Didn't think that one out, did you Jason?

"We're going to show him it's not Joe's law that matters in this county, it's the US constitution, and that has in it civil rights," said Fleischman.
Yes, civil rights for American citizens. Being here illegally is still against the law.

Someone please remind these folks that Chavez was AGAINST illegal immigration.

In 1969, Chavez led a march to the Mexican border to protest illegal immigration. Joining him were Sen. Walter Mondale and Martin Luther King’s successor as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Ralph Abernathy.

The UFW picketed INS offices to demand closure of the border. Chavez also finked on illegal alien scabs to la migra. Columnist Ruben Navarrette Jr. reported in the Arizona Republic, “Cesar Chavez, a labor leader intent on protecting union membership, was as effective a surrogate for the INS as ever existed. Indeed, Chavez and the United Farm Workers Union he headed routinely reported, to the INS, for deportation, suspected illegal immigrants who served as strikebreakers or refused to unionize.â€

All illegals in US should fast and never stop. smile

Perhaps the idiots that are pretending to fast, should really fast and not stop, which would allow hard working American people an opportunity to get their jobs back and have food on their tables.

Someone should have a pizza delivery guy show up with a few pies. Let them get a sniff of the delicious aroma and see how long they would last!
