Police: Admitted illegal immigrant was driving drunk with false ID

From Staff Reports

MUNCY — An illegal immigrant from Mexico was jailed after being arrested by state police on drunk driving charges at the Muncy interchange of Interstate 180 about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday

Troopers were called to the interchange to investigate a report of a car stuck in the median.

The driver reportedly told them he lost control of the vehicle when a tractor-trailer passed him.

The driver presented three identification cards, but it was clear that all three were fake, police said. All three cards had the name Angel Palacios Reyes on them, but each card had a different signature.

The driver’s speech was slurred and he had difficulty standing, police said.

“The identity of the driver could not be confirmed, but the man admitted that he was an illegal immigrant from Mexico,” Trooper Lance Schimp said in an affidavit.

The man, who told authorities he worked at a local restaurant, was arraigned before District Judge C. Roger McRae under the name of “John Doe” on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants plus five summary traffic violations, including driving without a license.

He was committed to the County Prison in default of bail. The bail amount was not available Wednesday.
