Man being interrogated by FBI

HIDALGO - A man from Afghanistan was caught trying to enter the United States illegally.

Federal sources confirm 30-year old Hamid Majidzada from Afghanistan tried to enter the country by crossing the Rio Grande River.

Border Patrol agents say the Afghan man was caught a mile east of the Hidalgo International Bridge. He came up through the riverbank and was greeted by federal officers.

Hidalgo Police Chief Vernon Rosser says everything is being done to make sure people from suspicious countries are caught.

Rosser wasn't notified by any agencies about the arrest, but he says he believes this shows the man wasn't a threat.

"We do have information shared if there is a need to know. You have to remember most intelligence is shared on a need-to-know basis," the police chief says.

The FBI tells NEWSCHANNEL 5 they've found no ties connecting the Afghan man with terrorists at this time.

We wanted to know how a man who doesn't speak Spanish crossed through Mexico.

Justo Ayala Santos, the mexican immigration assistant chief, says, "That's a surprise on how he made it through here. Only by interrogating him could we find out."

Mexican officials say they are vigilant about rooting out terrorists and they watch Middle Easterners entering their country closely.

They tell us the man got help if he made it through Mexico.

Santos says, "He did not pass through any major roads nor the airport, because our inspectors would have spotted him."

The FBI is interrogating Majidzada. He is being held for illegally entering the country.

Who do they think they are kidding when they say there are no networks in Mexico. It has been reported that MS-13 has made deals with Al Qeida for their smuggling routes. I wonder if this guy was a Sunni or a Shite.
