Immigration Enforcement Reducing Strain On Texas Public Schools

According to recent reporting from the Texas Tribune, we’ve seen a 1.4% drop in enrollment in Texas public schools, and much of that drop could be due to federal immigration crackdowns causing fewer illegal alien and foreign national children in our public schools.

One of the biggest examples of this is in Houston ISD, which, according to the Tribune, lost 22% of its immigrant students in just a year.

These developments are now being praised by anti-mass immigration activists like William Gheen with Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, who said: “This is wonderful news for taxpayers and American school students. We now have smaller classroom sizes and better student-to-teacher ratios.”

Gheen went on to say that this is all part of a national trend, and cited the city of Charlotte, N.C., as an example. According to him, “When ICE started conducting raids, several things happened, and happened rapidly; pressure on schools was alleviated quickly. Lots of schools suddenly had more classroom space and had more attention for their students.”

Gheen says he hopes this trend continues, and predicted that if it did, school systems would become less bloated, and property taxes may even begin to decline.
