    AFI-CIO Public Relations screw up!

    AFI-CIO Public Relations screw up!

    23 June 2009 20:39
Washington, DC (TRN) An attempt by the AFL-CIO to improve its public relations and show it actually does something for its members has become a PR nightmare.

Union officials went to Capitol Hill today to remind lawmakers about "the working men and women of America" and passed out plastic "hard hats" to remind Congress of the common working folk. There's just one problem: The hard hats were "Made in China" by non-Unionized virtual slave labor!

Check out the sticker on the back of the hats:

The hats were from the D.C. Building Trades Council one of the local unions from D.C. and part of the AFL-CIO. Spokesman Eddie Vale said "Obviously our policy is to only use union vendors and it was a mistake by a new staffer who ordered them and unfortunately wasn't caught before they went out."

    A mistake? Yea. Sure.

TRN asked others in the AFL-CIO about this claim and got a far different explanation. "They tell everyone to go out and buy the things we need at the lowest cost. Cost is everything." said one female Union office worker who asked to remain confidential for fear of reprisal. "The bosses must contain costs to assure themselves bonuses. They couldn't care less if the stuff they buy is made by Union Labor or not." she continued

This fits a pattern of prior behavior by the AFL-CIO which tends to show that union big shots don't care one wit about their members.

Take public policy as one example. The AFL-CIO and in particular its Service Employees Union International (SEUI) are ardent backers of Amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens in the country. The Union bosses routinely turn out thousands of workers to rallies in support of changing immigration laws. Yet by supporting more immigrants and supporting the legalization of those here unlawfully, the Union is actually increasing the size of the labor pool.

The laws of supply and demand dictate that when labor is plentiful, wages are lower. So by backing immigration changes, the Union bosses are actually serving to lower the wages of their own members by forcing those members to compete with more workers for jobs! The Union is actually working in direct contradiction to what is good for their own members!

Observers of this situation say the Union bosses are more interested in getting more members than they are with helping the members they already have. "Union bosses salaries and bonuses are all tied to membership growth. The more members the Union gets, the more money the bosses get paid" said one member of the Teamsters Union, Local 560 in Union City, NJ.

The bosses don't care at all if their efforts force down everyone's wages because the salaries of the bosses have nothing to do with the wages of Union members. Union big shots get paid by member dues and all members pay the same dues. More members gets the bosses more money, so the Union sells out its own workers in order to get more members paying dues.

Asked why the membership doesn't step up to confront the Union bosses, the member of Local 560 said "You know how things are. The bosses have their enforcers and anyone in the Union who speaks up gets a beating." "So they keep their mouths shut and only talk to news people like you (TRN) if we get to remain anonymous. If they find out who I am, I'll get whacked for talking to you" he said.

TRN asked if maybe getting whacked is what should happen to some of the bosses. The member smiled and said, "yea, that's an idea."

    We couldn't agree more!

Big Labor, the leadership hierarchy of organized labor, is like any other Special Interest Group; just follow the money. Most Special Interest Groups are only concerned for their agenda of profit, in this case union dues, and/or power, furnish votes to their Elitist Politicians, and not the U.S. Citizens they pretend to speak for or save from harm.

Great post jean. The Unions' support for amnesty has boggled my mind at times. This helps clarify it.

Just like the big business leaders in the anti-US Chamber of Commerce, the SEIU leadership just has their own monetary gain and power in mind, at any price to anyone else, including the whole country if necessary.

The SEIU and the anti-US C of C are strange bedfellows in this one. But ultimately its just for their mutual gain. They will get in bed with someone they hate just for money. Hmmm......that would make them......well, you know.

We should send this to Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck. I can try to do so. The only way I know is to e-mail it, and I think they both probably get hundreds or thousands? of e-mails daily.

Several years ago, before I was aware of the problem in this nation with illegal aliens, I was hired as a union organizer by SEIU. I didn't keep the job; as a matter of fact, I worked it for only 1 day...but I can tell you for a fact they work their organizers like dogs/slaves, with no paid overtime. The organizers work almost from sun-up till long after sundown.

They never get to go home (maybe once a month for a day) and are expected to work weekends and then do "actions" at other times; holidays, weekends, etc. The pay was very low to begin with and they are paid NO overtime for all of these hours. They refused to insure me AT ALL because I had had cancer a few years before. Not even if I broke my arm in a car accident would they insure me, or so I was told by an SEIU representative. I couldn't believe the way they treated their organizers!!

If they don't care any more than they do for the people who help them sign up all those members/dollars, they sure as heck don't care about the members either. They're no different than any other big business or our government. They take care of the ones at the top and any of the others are peons.

I had been a strong union supporter my entire life until I had that experience and now, with them supporting illegal aliens, I am even more disillusioned with them.

You can not get more corrupt that to advocate the violation of the rights of American citizens because you feel it will get you more money or the votes of their naturalized citizen relatives.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

    Corruption runs amok.

If it were not so tragic it would be funny. I just don't understand how the almighty dollar can entice people to betray their family and country.

Jeeze, I didn't realize that my Union is so much more civilized. I only got Blackballed. I wish the article would have also addressed the rampant Nepotism and Cronyism that is so vital to the Union officials maintaining their stranglehold. As it is now, certain members never suffer long term unemployment even during severely bad times while others, such as myself, bare the burden of the slightest down ticks in the industry.

I have paid a very high price to be able to say "I never kiss ass or eat shit.'
