ICE plans to spend up to $20m (£15m) to purchase thousands of gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks for officers and agents by March, according to a notice published Monday by the Department of Homeland Security.
The devices, called Glove (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), are manufactured by Compliant Technologies LLC of Lexington, Kentucky.
According to the manufacturer, “the discomfort associated with the stimulation is usually effective in bringing individuals into compliance in less than three seconds and leaves no burns, marks or scars”. The company has advertised the device as a “humane, low-optics, de-escalation solution for many situations facing our men and women in uniform”.
The gloves have previously been used in settings such as jails in the US.

ICE needs these ASAP, don’t wait till March.

“It’s immediate and sharp, and it will distract you. I call it like a bee sting,” said John Peters, president of the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths, who is studying how the device has been used. “If the officer is getting any type of resistance from the person, this is certainly an effective tool.”

Civil rights advocates expressed alarm at the plan, saying ICE officers already face criticism for their use of force with little oversight or accountability while enforcing Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Of course they are. Anything to protect illegal alien criminals.

ICE plans to spend up to $20m (£15m) to purchase thousands of gloves for officers and agents that can deliver painful electric shocks by March, according to a notice published Monday by the Department of Homeland Security.
The devices, called Glove (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), are manufactured by Compliant Technologies LLC of Lexington, Kentucky.

According to the manufacturer, “the discomfort associated with the stimulation is usually effective in bringing individuals into compliance in less than three seconds and leaves no burns, marks or scars”. The company has advertised the device as a “humane, low-optics, de-escalation solution for many situations facing our men and women in uniform”.

The gloves must be applied directly to someone’s skin to deliver a pain stimulus that typically helps an officer gain compliance within seconds, according to the company.

Jenn Rolnick Borchetta, deputy project director on policing at the American Civil Liberties Union, told the Associated Press that she questioned the use of the devices for civil immigration enforcement.
“ICE spent the last year showing this country they are too quick to use force. Now they will be able to deploy electric shocks with the slight push of a button that maybe nobody else can see them do,” she said. “Introducing gloves that can so easily be used to deliver terrible pain in encounters is a recipe for harm to the public.”
Peters said he believed ICE’s planned purchase would likely be the largest from the company to date. He said he could envision ICE officers using the gloves to help remove uncooperative subjects from cars and houses and in and out of detention facilities.
The manufacturer warns the device should not be used as punishment, against people merely exhibiting “verbal defiance or belligerence” or on high-risk populations such as children, pregnant women or elderly or disabled people.
Jeff Niklaus, the founder and CEO of Compliant Technologies, wrote in an email: “Unfortunately, we are unable to speak on this subject.”

You knew this was going to appear at some point after NICE said they were going to buy the gloves, right?

House Democrats on the Homeland Security Committee are calling for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin to abandon plans to equip immigration agents with electric shock gloves and “halt this procurement before more innocent lives are lost.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier this month published a notice of their plan to buy the generated low output voltage emitter, marketed as G.L.O.V.E., prompting widespread concern over how they may be used. ICE is a part of DHS led by Mullin.
“Under the Trump administration, ICE has repeatedly violated the law and disregarded its own policies on the use of force, shooting 23 people and killing 6, including 3 U.S. citizens. Many of these individuals were not the target of immigration enforcement operations and, in some cases, they were simply exercising their First Amendment rights. As we have raised in previous letters, DHS personnel have also permanently injured and nearly killed innocent people with so-called ‘less-lethal’ weapons, not unlike the G.L.O.V.E.,” Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) wrote in the letter to Mullin.
“Indeed, ICE has demonstrated a pattern of misusing tools and devices, including rubber bullets and chemical sprays, in manners that put the public at greater risk of serious injury or death.”

Oh, good, House Dems are basically slamming every single person that works for ICE and DHS. Not that they care. Not that the majority of the people killed or injured didn’t put themselves in that position. Democrats will always take the side of illegal aliens and violent Democrats.

Border czar Tom Homan has described the gloves as something of an intermediary step.
“Look, it’s another device to help someone be compliant, whether or not — you know, you just can’t go from zero to 100, right?” he said during an appearance on Fox News last week.
“There’s a lot of training involved. There’s still some background issues that need to be dealt with. So, the implementation of these gloves out in the field are going to be a while. I think they serve a better purpose in detention facility, where detainees get out of control and there’s fights in the facility,” Homan said.

Maybe Democrats should stop pushing their peasants to be nutjobs out in the streets. Maybe they should stop telling illegals to come to the U.S.

In addition to the high-profile killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who both died in altercations with federal agents in Minnesota, the use of rubber bullets by federal law enforcement has led to several protestors being blinded in one eye.

Guidance from the company that produces the gloves, Compliant Technologies, recommends various limitations in its own literature, noting that failure to follow guidelines could result in “injury or death.”
The product manual for G.L.O.V.E. outlines a number of potential dangers with the product, including advising that it not be used against the elderly, pregnant or disabled people while noting that not all underlying medical conditions are visible.
Thompson noted that the gloves should not be used on one individual by two officers at the same time and that the company advises against skin contact beyond 15 seconds.

“Given ICE’s horrific record of violence against the public, the agency must not be allowed to equip its officers and agents with a device that demands both significant training for and restraint by its users,” Thompson said.
The Trump administration has defended its plans to purchase the gloves, thought it has not said when officers might receive them or in what setting they might be used, such as within detention facilities rather than with the broader public.
In response to The Hill, DHS repeated the same statement it has previously issues about the gloves.

“ICE is constantly assessing the needs of our officers in the field to ensure they have the tools and equipment necessary to safely arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens from our country. Every decision is made with careful consideration and appropriately reviewed to ensure that any technology ICE utilizes is consistent with all applicable law enforcement policies and standards,” a DHS spokesperson said.
