Agents Recover 3,500 Pounds of Pot Worth Millions

TUCSON, Ariz. - U.S. Border Patrol agents working the southern Arizona desert recovered more than 3,500 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $2.7 million.

Agents Saturday tracked a group of suspected illegal immigrants about 20 miles west of Lukeville when they discovered 84 bundles of marijuana weighing more than 1,730 pounds and an estimated value of $1.3 million.

Early Monday the border patrol found an abandoned sport utility vehicle while patrolling south of State Route 86.

Agents recovered 100 bundles of marijuana inside the vehicle weighing more than 1,780 pounds with an estimated value of $1.4 million.

From October 1 to August 31, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized more than 940,000 pounds of marijuana valued at $752 million.
