WEST BABYLON, N.Y. — Elizabeth Drummond was a single mother from a hardscrabble family whose roots go back to the Mayflower and an American Indian tribe.

The man she married, Segundo Encalada, was a relative newcomer to the United States, sent illegally by his parents from Ecuador when he was 17.

    He soon became “Daddy Segundoâ€

Here's another story of a fatal ending and a family torn apart by illegal immigration, but in a different sense. It happened in my city.

I don't believe this story either. Americans don't force their children into depression, poverty or make them sleep on couches when they're paying money and borrowing money to pay lawyers and airline tickets to Guatemala. No American refuses to work either because some lawyer told them not to, when they're paying money to lawyers and buying airlines tickets to Guatemala. No American does that. At least no American that deserves any sympathy.

She and her kids could have moved to Guatemala or she could have worked and saved her money and instead of wasting it on immigration lawyers bought low cost airline tickets in advance and gone to visit her husband in Guatemala several times during the year. There are American Families whose husbands and fathers and wives and mothers have been in Iraq and Afghanistan longer than this dude was in Guatemala. In fact there are almost 5,000 American Families who will never see that father or mother again except through a memory on Memorial Day when they visit a grave.

So, give it up, Immigration Fiction Writers! We're done with you and your SOBBY Tall Tales to try to Open Our Borders. NO MORE!

The only time you can fool an American is when we're not paying attention. Well, we're paying attention now.

I've always told my daughters to make good decisions, for good out comes. There's no guarantee of a good out come, but poor decisions almost always have "consequences".

Teenagers may not even think about some of their decisions, nor do people "in love".

When you chose to marry someone that is not a legal citizen, there may be "consequences" Your spouse could be put in jail, or deported. Your spouse could become a legal citizen, but even good decisions in life aren't guaranteed, bad decisions usually turn out bad.

I'm sorry that her husband ended his own live, but that was his decision. It was her choice to marry him. The out come isn't my fault.

You are more correct than you may know.

Controlling interest in the NYT is now with Carlos Slim, a Mexican citizen of Lebanese descent. He's one of the richest men in the world. He sells cell phones to Mexicans in America.

I personally know a couple where the husband was here, legally, from Germany. They met and married, he had a job as an engineer and a teen aged son who lived with them. His Visa was about to expire and they applied for residency. She was given such a hard time by immigration that she said her breast cancer treatment was nothing compared to what they put them through to the point that she wanted to just move to Germany with him. Since she was in the middle of her treatment he did not want her to have to do that.

They eventually won the case, they had provided pictures of them out ballroom dancing, on vacations, with friends and family. They of course are still together, she is free from cancer and he took care of her physically and financially when she was sick. No public money.

This process should be difficult. Our country has a lot at stake here. And if you are legitimate, you will prevail.

There is something else going on in this story. If this man's wife and children were his top priority he would have never intentionally drank poison, if his poisoning was by his own hand and intentional.

The use of the word "poison" gives the whole thing away like some Romeo and Juliet Fairy Tale. Did he drink kerosene, anti-freeze, Mr. Clean, what? If this is true, then they would have said WHAT he "took".

I think the whole thing is fiction.

The moral to this story is: Americans, do not marry illegal aliens. If you do, we will not support them, we will deport them. If you want to leave the US to be with your true love, then you are free of course to leave our country and go live with your spouse in their country whenever their government will allow you to do so.
