Alabama’s Aderholt delivers bill defunding Obama’s immigration actions

BREAKING: Alabama’s Aderholt delivers bill defunding Obama’s immigration actions

    Robert Aderholt (R-AL4)

WASHINGTON — Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL4) will I ntroduced legislation Wednesday that takes direct aim at President Obama’s executive orders on immigration. The Alabama congressman plans to defund the President’s immigration orders by attaching his bill to funding for the Department of Homeland Security, taking a major step toward delivering on a promise Republicans made late last year.

In December, prior to Republicans taking control of the Senate, Congress passed the so called “CRomnibus,” funding the government through September, with the exception of the Department of Homeland Security, which it only funded through Feb. 27.

In spite of opposition from staunch conservatives, backers of the bill said it put Republicans in a position to roll back the President’s immigration orders by waiting until the GOP assumed control of the Senate.

Aderholt’s bill seeks to deliver on Republicans’ promise, and will likely garner the support of hardline conservatives.

One of the challenges Republicans have faced in defunding the President’s executive orders is that he could simply reword and re-issue them under a different name.

Aderholt’s bill would not only defund the current orders, but would also take away the President’s ability to issue similar orders moving forward.

“I am introducing legislation today that not only defunds President Obama’s Executive Amnesty orders but also removes his discretion in granting the benefits that goes along with them,” Aderholt told Yellowhammer on Tuesday. “My goal was to draft a conservative bill that addresses the executive amnesty issue and that is what we have done.”

The most notable part of Aderholt’s bill blocks the benefits granted to illegal immigrants in the President’s executive actions, denying, for example, the issuance of green cards and work permits.

It also creates penalties for lack of enforcement in handing over criminal illegal aliens to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and speeds up the deportation process by applying the humanitarian standards (religious persecution, sex trafficking, etc.) at the beginning of the deportation process instead of at the end.

Aderholt’s office says that will “save hundred of millions of dollars by returning the illegal entrants to their home country within weeks instead of months and years.”

Other House members are expected to propose immigration solutions that do not go as far as Aderholt’s, but could receive the backing of House leadership. Last summer, it was Aderholt’s tougher enforcement language that made it into the House’s final border bill, in spite of House leadership’s early objections. However, that bill was not taken up by the Democratic-controlled Senate and Aderholt’s language was not included in the CRomnibus.

His challenge now will be to rally enough support from his colleagues to get the bill attached to Department of Homeland security funding bill, which is no easy task. But with the introduction of his bill on Tuesday, Aderholt has joined Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions as one of Washington’s most important players in the current immigration debate.

Screw you Aderholt! If you had wanted to stop Obama's amnesty for illegals for real... you would have not voted for Obama's best friend on Amnesty ... John Boehner today you two faced hypocritical piece of crap!

I will be calling my Congressman in support of this bill by Aderholt, Lamar Smith and one other. Not because I like them, but I do like the contents of the bill such as restoring Secure Communities, authorizing local authorities to arrest and hold aliens, and several other points like barring the present and any future Exec. actions by the exec. branch to make immigration law. Sometimes when the jar holding the honey offends me the contents are great. I think this is one of those times. i'm tossing my 202 lbs. of weight into support of this bill.

    URGENT ACTION

    ROY BECK, NUMBERSUSA PRESIDENT

New amendment in House Appropriations Committee would turn back (1) November executive amnesty, (2) 2012 executive DREAM amnesty, (3) all kinds of other executive actions that have gutted immigration enforcement since 2009

PLEASE SEND THIS FAX NOW: @
    https://www.numbersusa.com/

    DEAR FRIENDS,
I know you will want to hear about the Aderholt bill which meets two essential criteria for me to come to you with highest excitement:

No. 1: It has a chance to pass.
Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.) is a member of the House Appropriations Committee where he is introducing his bill as an amendment to be attached to the spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security. He is a respected senior Member among the mainstream of House Republicans. He is already getting support from other Committee members.

The House Republican leadership has promised to pass something that de-funds at least the most recent executive amnesty. The Aderholt bill is one of the three or four that is shaping up as the likely vehicle.

No. 2: It deals with the overall problems of immigration enforcement.
We've all been waiting for a bill like this for six years as the Obama Administration has systematically re-shaped immigration laws and stopped and distorted all kinds of enforcement. The Aderholt bill not only de-funds the executive amnesty the President announced in November but it also overturns unilateral anti-enforcement actions he has been taking for six years.

    • THE ADERHOLT BILL:
    • Prohibits the President's use of granting parole to illegal aliens
    • Prohibits the Administration from granting work permits to all illegal aliens
    • Defunds all executive actions on immigration, including all memos issued by the Department of Homeland Security
    • Closes the loophole that played a large role in last summer's border surge by treating illegal aliens from non-contiguous countries the same as contiguous countries, making them easier to remove
    • Prohibits illegal aliens from accessing Social Security, medicare, and benefits from the Affordable Care Act
    • Reinstates the Secure Communities program
    • Restricts federal funding to municipalities that provide sanctuary to illegal aliens
    • Prohibits the government from providing legal council to illegal aliens in removal proceedings
    • Restricts the Administration's ability to grant and extend Temporary Protected Status to illegal aliens

Send this fax to your U.S. Representative to make sure he/she knows that there is passionate support in your District to stop DHS from issuing work permits to millions of illegal aliens.

    Everything is moving fast.

The Appropriations Committee votes on de-funding options as early as tomorrow (Friday).

The full House may be voting on a final DHS spending bill as early as next Wednesday, sending it to the Senate.

You will remember that in December, NumbersUSA activists flooded Capitol phone lines with calls for the House to vote on a spending bill that included a de-funding of the executive amnesties.

We lost that skirmish. Instead, Congress funded most of the government through September but funded DHS (Homeland Security) only into February.

Although it is a much restricted opportunity for what we wanted, this is our chance to stop the amnesty with the wording of the DHS spending bill this month.

Speaker John Boehner sounded good today when he met the media.

Earlier in the day, pro-illegal-immigration forces began promoting the idea that because of the terrorism in Paris, the House Republicans would have to back off "threatening to shut-down" the federal security agency over the amnesty issue.

Asked about that, Speaker Boehner today said:
"I don't think the funding of DHS is at risk. What I do think is at risk is the rule of law and our Constitution, and we have to act -- so we will."

Various Republicans are saying the House will pass a bill that fully funds DHS the rest of the year but prohibits spending any money to give out work permits and other benefits to illegal aliens. If the President vetoes that bill, they say, it is the President who would be shutting down DHS.

Speaker Boehner has rarely shown a lot of spine in standing up to the open-border crowd, so his statement today was reassuring.

Your faxes today -- and responses to other requests over the next week -- will help ensure that the Speaker sticks to his promise to act in defense of the rule of law and the Constitution.

    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,

I have a lot of faith in Sen. Sessions. To date he has been one of the few that has been consistently on our side on this issue. Furthermore, he has been our strongest voice in the U.S. Congress. IMO, Sen. Sessions support on this bill is a very good thing.
