DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — The murder trial for an illegal alien who allegedly went berserk with a pickup truck and killed a man outside of a Bensalem bar will start Monday in Bucks Court, officials said yesterday.

Jose Esteban Maldonado-Luzuriaga, 35, was flagged by bartenders at the Salute Bar on Nov. 29 because he was visibly drunk, bartender Carl Slaton Jr. testified at an earlier hearing.

Slayton, the older brother of Houston Texans running back Steve Slaton, said Maldonado, after being ejected from the bar for being rowdy with patrons, got into the truck in the parking lot and started revving the motor.

The bartender was standing outside the bar with co-worker William Sullo III and flashed his middle finger at the drunk, thinking the immigrant wanted only to scare them. Instead, Maldonado allegedly gunned the engine and bolted forward. Slaton jumped to one side; Sullo jumped in the wrong direction and was pinned by the truck against the exterior of the bar.

Sullo was rushed to a Philly hospital, where he was pronounced dead of massive internal injuries.

Maldonado, a native of Equador, is charged with homicide, attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and driving without a license, said First Assistant District Attorney David Zellis.

He is in jail on $3 million bail and faces life in prison. Prosecutors said U.S. Immigration officials have a detainer on the defendant, meaning he’ll be deported if he is ever let out of prison.

I'll bet he had previous encounters with the law and could have, should have, been deported before this travesty!

Great, life in prison means that our tax dollars are going to provide his food and well-being in prison, as well as clogging up our court system with the endless appeals that will undoubtedly be presented by pro-bono attorneys which are paid for by taxpayers.
