PALO PINTO - Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Department coffers are a little richer since county commissioners approved Friday to accept a $6,433 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program grant.

According to Palo Pinto County Sheriff Ira Mercer, the funds will be used for new vehicles.

After paying Justice Benefits Inc. $1,400 for completing the federal grant, Palo Pinto County's SCAAP funds will be $5,033.

Of the state's 254 counties, 113 received SCAAP grants, administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance in conjunction with the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
