HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities in Garland County have charged a man with impersonating a law enforcement officer for allegedly pulling over motorists and writing fake tickets.

The Sentinel-Record reports that 20-year-old Wilmar Arnulfo Perez was arrested at his home Wednesday morning.

A judge set a $10,000 bond for Perez, but federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement put a hold on him because he is an alleged illegal immigrant. Perez has a hearing in Hot Springs District Court on Nov. 1. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Sheriff's investigator Bill House says Perez was a sheriff's cadet in 2009 but was expelled from the program. House says Perez had a ticket book, badges and handcuffs that were from the department.

Perez also faces misdemeanor counts of theft and possession of a blue light.
