Chart of the Day: Recorded Migrant US Southern Border Crossings Continues for June 2022 … Any One Care?

by Tom Williams about 17 hours ago

There is a soaring number of apprehensions of migrants at the US southern border as President Biden faces increasing pressure for what critics say are soft-touch policies on immigration that encourage people to try getting into the United States.

He is keen to try and end Title 42, a Trump-era COVID policy that saw migrants deported straight back to Mexico, but a judge has ordered the president to continue enforcing it.

This year 2022 is shaping up to be worse than 2021. See the latest US Customs and Border Protection numbers for June 2022 overlaid with the past few years and learn more here.

The large number of expulsions during the pandemic has contributed to a higher-than-usual number of migrants making multiple border crossing attempts, which means that total encounters somewhat overstate the number of unique individuals arriving at the border. Here is the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) June 2022 report in detail and an excerpt below.

  • The number of unique individuals encountered nationwide in June 2022 was 153,379, a 14 percent decrease in the number of unique enforcement encounters than the prior month.
  • In total, there were 207,416 encounters along the southwest land border in June, also a 14 percent decrease compared to May. Of those, 26 percent involved individuals who had at least one prior encounter in the previous 12 months, compared to an average one-year re-encounter rate of 15 percent for FY 2014-2019.
  • More than two-thirds (68 percent) of all southwest land border encounters were single adults, with 140,197 encounters in June, a 16 percent decrease compared to May.
  • 92,274 encounters, 44 percent of the total, were processed for expulsion under Title 42. 115,142 encounters were processed under Title 8.
    • 78,130 encounters involving single adults (56 percent of all single adult encounters) were processed for expulsion under Title 42, with 62,067 processed under Title 8.
    • 14,028 encounters involving family unit individuals (27 percent of all family unit individuals) were processed for expulsion under Title 42, with 37,752 processed under Title 8.

Unaccompanied Children

  • Encounters of unaccompanied children increased 4 percent, with 15,271 encounters in June compared with 14,678 in May. In June, the average number of unaccompanied children in CBP custody was 752 per day, compared with an average of 692 per day in May.

Family Unit individuals

  • Encounters of family unit individuals decreased by 13 percent from 59,534 in May to 51,780 in June—which is a 40 percent decrease from the peak of 86,631 in August 2021.

The following is a summary version of an infographic for the June 2022 US border crossing demographics.

Disturbingly, six of those apprehended were on terror watch lists, bringing the total number of terror suspects apprehended crossing the border this year to 56. In addition to the migrants encountered at the border, 105,161 immigrants were removed from the US. More than 92,000 of them were expelled under Title 42.

Around 80,000 migrants were released into the US.

This monthly report comes after Texas and Missouri filed a lawsuit against the Biden Administration. It now requires CBP to provide numbers on encounters and expulsions.

Why were they even trying to hide this information?

Police say the smugglers treated the migrants “worse than animals” throughout the voyage, leaving them no water or visible means of air-conditioning. Several survivors were left in critical condition after suffering brain damage and internal bleeding. Investigators suspect the migrants paid the smugglers around $10,000 for safe passage to the US.

One of the worst examples just recently occurred concerning border human traffickers. Do you recall the recent horrifying incident where 53 immigrants died? The migrants were found in an abandoned trailer on June 27, 2022, on a back road on the edge of San Antonio. See a video report of this below.

So a nightmare situation continues at the US southern border. The story above is just one of many. Many migrants will perish in the scorching summer heat this year. The Biden administration simply does not care.

Instead, Biden continues playing politics to satisfy a misguided goal, to change demographics for what Democrats believe will be an electoral advantage. It’s not sure this strategy will work in the long run.

Nevertheless, many more migrants will die, feeding the border human traffickers’ coffers. Not only Biden, Democrats, and mainstream media don’t care. Many apathetic Americans don’t either. They merely turn their heads and look the other way.

Only serious immigration policy and border security that considers all parties’ concerns will be required to solve this problem. Don’t hold your breath on this.
