Documents Reveal Pressure to Comply With Program to Deport Immigrants

Federal immigration officials, frustrated by the refusal of Chicago and Cook County to join a controversial program aimed at deporting immigrants with criminal records, pressed Mayor Richard M. Daley and Sheriff Tom Dart in an aggressive campaign to obtain participation from reluctant police authorities, according to internal documents.

Last spring, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials tried to put the program, Secure Communities, in effect in Cook County without clear consent from the sheriff’s office. Their advisers proposed asking Rahm Emanuel, then White House chief of staff, to use his Chicago connections to intervene with unresponsive local leaders.

Chicago and Cook County were among several localities nationwide that refused to enroll in the program, which involves sharing fingerprints of anyone arrested with the Department of Homeland Security. Chicago and Cook County cited so-called sanctuary ordinances that prohibit local officials from involvement in immigration enforcement.

The Secure Communities program is in effect in more than 1,000 jurisdictions in 40 states, including Illinois. The federal agency plans to take it nationwide by 2013 and says it does not need local approval to do so.

E-mails and other documents — obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, an immigrant-rights group — show that immigration officials saw Chicago and Cook County among the cities to be test cases for whether localities are allowed to opt out of the program.

Secure Communities is meant to find and deport illegal immigrants found guilty of serious crimes. But the immigration agency’s statistics through February 2011 show that 32 percent of immigrants put into deportation proceedings in Illinois had no criminal convictions. Nationwide, 28 percent had no criminal record.

Let's remove Emanuel from office because he will support illegal aliens. We do not need Emanuel. Let's tell him he has to deport all illegal aliens. If he does not, then we will remove him from office.

I always say, the Democrats do not enforce immigration laws. They support amnesty for illegals. So we must not elect Democrats. And in 2012 we have to vote Obama out because he also supports amnesty for illegals and he is spending our tax dollars in wars. Obama is doing what the Pentagon tells him. We know the Pentagon likes our tax dollars for wars. We Americans are sick and tired of the politicians using our tax dollars to initiate wars. It is time we tell the politicians we are not supporting their wars and we have to tell them that the are not allowed to use our tax dollars for wars. And to the Pentagon, stop the wars.

IL doesn't even want to deport illegal invaders (the NY Times refers to them as so called "immigrants") with criminal records! I can only imagine what that sanctuarary hell hole must look like!

I have talked with a few Sheriff Deputies that have told me they prefer not to enforce laws against illegal aliens because they do not speak Spanish and thinks undocumented aliens is a Federal matter.

A couple may have became upset with me because I told them as long as they are Law Enforcement Officers their jobs includes detaining and arresting illegal immigrants when they commit crimes. The same as any other race of crime offenders.

Any man or woman takes the pledge and swear to up hold all laws to the fullest extent of law should resign if they refuses to perform job duties in a lawful manner.

Ignoring undocumented immigrants criminal actions, due to not speaking Spanish is unacceptable, and are certainly not an excuse to not enforce laws.

Before citizens vote for people to assist with leading this Country, they should learn as much information as possible about who they are casting votes for, what their past views are about different things affecting this Country, including where they stand pertaining to illegal immigration. Past voting records allows enough information to determent if person running for office will stand with citizens and assist with enacting laws that will move this Country in another direction. 2012 will arrive quickly, so citizens need to begin now and pay close attention to all persons running for offices, and keep notes of their actions and voting records.
