Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

Trump said several months ago that he wants to see comprehensive reform of our immigration laws. That is not the code for amnesty called "comprehensive immigration reform". He wants to go through all the existing immigration laws and determine which ones aren't being enforced and enforce them and try to pass some new ones to improve this process that reduces immigration that either competes with American Workers or adds legal immigrants to the welfare rolls, based on a merit-type system. He's not talking about illegal aliens, he's talking about legal immigrants.

To me comprehensive immigration reform and comprehensive reform of our immigration laws mean the same thing. Shifting a couple words around doesn't disguise the true meaning. The word "comprehensive" is the word we've learned to associate with amnesty. Please don't be fooled by the simple shifting of a couple words.

I realize it means that to you, but it doesn't mean that to Trump. Tom Cotton's Raise Act is a reform of our immigration laws that reduces legal immigration by 40% just in its first year by getting rid of the visa lottery, guest worker programs and reducing green card admissions. Laws and enforcement to get immigrants off of welfare and prevent them from using it for at least 5 years is a reform of our immigration laws. Lou Barletta's Verify First Act is a reform to our immigration laws that requires verification of legal status before any health care tax credit can be issued. Trump ran on a platform that ends illegal immigration and reduces legal immigration. He does not support amnesty.
Donald Trump is not a shy person. If he wants amnesty, he'll tell you straight up. Trump said over and over during the campaign, no amnesty and laid out clearly his priorities for deportations and many other actions to end illegal immigration into the US once and for all. Visas overstays - out. Public charges (welfare) - out. Criminals (including misdemeanors) - out. Violators of immigration documents - out. I figured up what percentage of illegal aliens those categories might represent and it was over 90%. He also said that after we get all of those people out, then he will look at who is left and evaluate the situation on what if anything different should be done. In that regard, he talked about deportations and giving them a chance to come back in at some point, but they would have to get in line behind legal immigrants.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Your attempt at obfuscation is a fail. The bills you mentioned are not considered "comprehensive" in form Those bills are designed with specific concerns in mind. A comprehensive bill deals with all facets of immigration.
President Trump's continued support of DACA proves he supports amnesty for illegals. Furthermore, Trump has in the past said he would consider a bill that offers legalization to illegal immigrants, which is amnesty. Trump is not an idiot and has learned that the word "comprehensive" is a nasty word. Hence his wordsmithing designed to stay away from the word. He has, although, adopted the word "compromise", which essentially means the same thing.
Excerpts:
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/0...promise-235509“I personally have always believed that it’s not a good idea to have millions of people in your country that can never become citizens,” he said. “But I certainly think legalization is better than what we have now. And if that’s what we need to do to get progress, I would be able to accept that.”
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/n...228-story.html"The time is right for an immigration bill as long as there is compromise on both sides," Trump told the anchors. His comments, reported by several of the journalists present, were confirmed by an attendee of the luncheon.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.f6c609bf196aIndeed, Trump sounds a lot like he's now preparing to allow undocumented immigrants to come "out of the shadows" and live in the United States — legally — with apparent penalties. Many Republicans would certainly call that "amnesty" — including Trump in a former life.
There are many more such stories where Trump has supported what we all know as amnesty. I just used a few examples to make a point."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

MW, why are you quoting Marco Rubio and then claiming in this cut and paste that Trump said it?
That is Marco Rubio's statement to Politico, not Donald Trump's.Rubio also said a pathway to legal status, rather than citizenship, would be something he would support in a compromise deal.
“I personally have always believed that it’s not a good idea to have millions of people in your country that can never become citizens,” he said. “But I certainly think legalization is better than what we have now. And if that’s what we need to do to get progress, I would be able to accept that.”

Okay, my mistake. How about the other quotes and the many others I can pull up if you so insist? What about Trump's continued support of DACA and his support of their permanent legalization? Are you going to deny those truths?
By the way, you need to fix your link because it isn't complete. I checked my link and it works. Was your failure to list an accurate link by accident or on purpose? Just asking .....Last edited by MW; 06-23-2017 at 12:08 PM.

I agree with this point of view. "Reform" can mean anything including making it more restrictive. Another abused term is "amnesty". An amnesty for illegal immigrants should mean nothing more than immunity from prosecution, it should not grant permission to be here. That is NOT amnesty, that is immunity from the law, not prosecution. Immunity from the law is the problem that creates illegal immigration and is the real groundwork of "sanctuary" cities.
But we should be hearing more evidence from Trump that he is going to crack down on illegal immigrants and immigration in general. Part of confronting illegal immigration and a lax immigration policy is a public face showing intolerance for it. Trump should be providing that face.Last edited by pkskyali; 06-23-2017 at 02:25 PM.
