AR-Petition submitted for illegal immigration measure

Petition submitted for illegal immigration measure
    Posted: Jul 02, 2010 5:25 PM CDT

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Supporters of a proposal aimed at denying state services to illegal immigrants say they've gathered enough signatures to get the measure on the November ballot.

Secure Arkansas submitted more than 78,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office Friday afternoon, the deadline for petitions to make it on the fall ballot.

The group needed 77,468 signatures, and the Secretary of State's office must verify the signatures before it makes it to the ballot.

The proposal would require anyone 14 or older seeking public benefits from a state agency to sign an oath saying they live legally in the country.

The group says those who falsely fill out an affidavit could face perjury charges. Verification would not be required for emergency medical treatment, prenatal care or public school enrollment.

    Sign an oath?
Remember when you went to board an airplane and they asked you if anyone had tampered with your bag and some other question. Like a terrorist is going to tell them he has a bomb in his bag. Take an oath? Would any of these people be prosecuted? I doubt it. Like Arizona. We passed the same law and it took several years for them to figure out that no one was following it and illegals up the you-know-what were sucking up every service they could. I guess that was a precursor to figuring out we ran out of money.
