Arizona immigration law: Judge dismisses officer's challenge
Arizona immigration law: Judge dismisses officer's challenge
Jan. 19, 2011 06:34 AM
Associated Press
A federal judge in Phoenix has officially dismissed a police officer's legal challenge to Arizona's new immigration law.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton last month had granted the request by Gov. Jan Brewer to dismiss Phoenix Officer David Salgado's lawsuit. But the judge also gave the officer 30 days to file additional court documents.
The officer didn't file those records, so the case was officially dismissed last week.
Despite the dismissal of several lawsuits seeking to overturn the law, the federal government's challenge to the law remains alive.
The U.S. Justice Department's lawsuit was the case where Bolton put on hold the law's most controversial sections.
Bolton's ruling has been appealed.
