Arrest leads to discovery of $1 million in cocaine at suspected stash house

Two suspects were arrested Sunday in a Cameron Park drug bust that led authorities to 50 bundles of cocaine valued at more than $1 million at a suspected stash house, Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio announced Tuesday.

Lucio said at a press conference that the bust netted the largest amount of drugs in estimated street value for the department so far this year, particularly because it was pure cocaine.

He said Procopio Hernandez, 31, and Elsa Guillermina Salas, 43, were arrested and each charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Undercover officers and investigators from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department Special Investigations Unit conducted surveillance at the home on the 2700 block of Eduardo Avenue, he said.

On Sunday, officers saw a man enter the home after exiting a van while carrying a duffel bag, so officers approached the home to ask permission to search the residence, he said.
